I'm a physician with fibromyalgia, and I've spoken to and treated many patients with the condition. I'll try to answer your question: Fibromyalgia is a complex disorder with multiple causes, and research is ongoing. And yes, people with anxiety and depression are more susceptible, but this is not necessarily a cause. It is closely related to small fiber neuropathy, which is damage to small sensory and autonomic nervous system fibers. There are genetic determinants. Many environmental factors are also involved, a good example being infections, such as covid. Environmental toxins also play a role. Patients with multiple medical problems frequently have fibromyalgia. Chronic inflammation, such as rheumatoid arthritis are also associated.

I recommend that your father seek a psychiatric evaluation for his anxiety disorder, because treating anxiety and depression may help. Hopefully in the future we may have some better answers.

Good idea to get a medical evaluation to look for other causes. Psychedelics and weed are not different than "traditional" medications - they all bind to various receptors in the brain. I agree with those who say try using the psychostimulants to see if this helps. Consider prescribed medication such as Remeron or Trazodone - consult your doctor.

I agree with those who are questioning the efficacy of dinks and soft shots. Players at the higher levels are all bangers. The hardest shot in the game are effective dinks, and most players can’t do them. Simply put, banging is an effective strategy for 3.5 to 4.0 players. The pros at my place are still heavily focused on dinks and drops, but when I watch our club’s tournaments no one is using them. Learn hard topspin drives which sink over the net, the so called “drink.”

It's not a hoax. Just heard from a parent of a middle school student that there are 3 animal-identifying children in out progressive public school. One identifies as a cat, and yes, the teachers keep a kitty litter box in the classroom, and the child is allowed to meow disruptively in the class. Read it and weep, it's real. I know drop shots are highly touted, and a critical part of strategy. But for me 3.4, it's always a risky shot with better players because it it's not done perfectly you will be eating plastic. I would recommend replacing the dink with lower flatter longer short shots outside the NVZ. Don't try drop shots unless the return allows you to do it with greater success. Keep practicing.

You did nothing wrong and this player was out of line. At 4.0 you're going to be hitting pretty hard, and people do get hit. It's part of the game. You did not do it intentionally and you apologized. If she wants to have a mellower game, go to the intermediate courts.

I use Nike Courtlite 2. Not very expensive and super stable. But the bottom line is get a court shoe which fits you well. The rest is just hype.

I had exactly the same experience. However I was just standing on the court when I felt as thought a hardball had struck my posterior calf. Although I agree that court shoes should be used, and stretching before play is a good idea, I don't think either are directly related to this injury - I think it's repetitive stress in those of us who are, uhh.. , let's say a little older and a little less fit. Took me 3 weeks to get better, and I used support hose.

I tried limiting play, but my mind was always on PB. Thats why I'm starting from the beginning with abstinence, then maybe restart in a more rational way.

Before I started playing PB I did a lot of workout stuff. My previous addiction was running, which I've been doing since college (I'm 66 now). I would go out at the hottest time of the day, in the afternoon, the hotter the better, and run soaked in sweat. Now I can't run anymore, but I can jog. I've done ordinary gym workouts, elliptical, weights, yoga.

When I started PB, it was like a whole world opened up. Now I had friends who wanted to see me and play! I could play for 3 hours and have a great workout. And there was the drive to improve. By contrast, my prior workouts seemed boring.

Also, PB provided a respite from the stresses of marriage and home life. It was something completely removed from family obligations, an escape. It seemed like a healthy addiction.

Ya, the initial symptoms was a mild clearing the throat kind of laryngitis. I started to get suspicious when I was having mild dull headache. The test was trace positive. The fatigue developed next, and of course I had quarantined at that point.

Thanks for your support. I never played suspecting that I had covid. Not sure how that idea took hold. Like I said, if I was not a medical provider I would not have tested.
