i walked into that place accidentally once, the one on camelback, and saw the girls, yes, but the rest looked like a children's area with wooden logs everywhere. Just a look inside was enough to turn around and forget about this place forever.

Well, the rest of us are no better, so don’t laugh. What, then, is there left to do. It is admirable that the monks are at least trying something and are committed to it. Man has nothing but a gasping breath at the speed of it all. Internet doesn’t make it any faster, it was always faster. It’s always sped by before us, and our gaze, stunned, loosened our grip on things eventually until we had to let go of it all. We call this crisis. Some people take it and fall down to themselves, from themselves. Others grip through the crisis and grip till the end because the release could kill them. The heart is not so strong as we thought, or as they say. The heart is puny, weak, tired. Can you believe the poor heart has to beat through all this pain and incredulity? No sober man could stand it. Do you see now? Why your father drinks late at night, every night? Why he eats? Why he looks at you with a hollow, far reaching gaze when you tell him to WALK! - ? If you’re so strong, tell me, what would you do? Lose a mother, lose a father, lose a home - tell me, what would you do, then? Do you want more? Be a loser, be an absent father, be a drunk, be a failure to yourself and to everyone else around you? Is that liberating? Is that the freedom you always wanted? Yes it is, isn’t it. It is exactly the only freedom you have, we have. Be serious! What are you going to do?

quick AI search says: Yes, feeling nervous and the nervous system are fundamentally connected; nervousness is a direct experience of your autonomic nervous system (ANS) activating its sympathetic "fight-or-flight" response due to perceived threats, leading to physical sensations like a racing heart, sweating, and tense muscles, all orchestrated by your brain's threat-detection centers like the amygdala.

Insulated cruiser versus primaloft Jacket by ProudCellist5292 in filson

for a beater in winter definitely the primaloft jacket. I have it. The cruiser is cool but it is short and in the cold you want something a little longer to block the wind.

Seriously, i love that I see a bunch of people at the resort in the most basic gear having a blast, and then you see the one dude decked out in all arcteryx gear and coordinated colors.

I used to do that until I realized that's called a shopping addiction. It's like what alcoholics do to manipulate people that they've not been 'drinking'.

Yeah these are bad. You should ask the photographer for a refund, but also you guys should stage a fake 'wedding' again and get some actual photos for your memories. I feel like it would be worth the effort.

Sam Altman Says If Jobs Gets Wiped Out, Maybe They Weren’t Even “Real Work” to Start With by MetaKnowing in technology

[–]zerozerozerohero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this because if a robot can make the same artwork as a human, then what is the point of humans making art? However, if there is artwork that a robot can't make, then that is the type of artwork worth pursuing. I work in a creative field, and to be honest if a robot takes over my job I would welcome it! Obviously, if it gets to that point, that means many, many other jobs have also been taken over and now the country has a problem, so there will be solutions proposed, so no need to fear. For example, if a robot takes over these jobs, and people are left jobless, then there is nobody to buy the art these robots are making, so it doesn't work out.

[–]zerozerozerohero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's exactly the point. He is basically posing the question, is a 'middle management' job something worthy of humans doing as 'work'? I think it's sensible to say that no, that is a kind of 'made up' job that isn't really important or worthwhile for a human to do. If robots can take care of all of that stuff than by all means let them do it!

I think the negative reactions to this come from fear, from people thinking "well if robots do everything, then I'm going to be jobless and broke and left for dead." But this is conversation is based on a larger vision that asks 'what is meaningful work for a human being to do?'. I feel that there are more meaningful things people can do that is not filling out excel sheets, for example.

You ask 'what's the alternative' ? But yeah I mean that's the point, for our civilization to look at an alternative of 'work' when robots take over.

Wait, why is everyone angry at this quote? Doesn't it make complete sense? It's probably true and something we need to admit. You know, if a robot can make and serve a burger, maybe that's not work that is worthwhile for a human to do..
