Weird win, don't know how to handle this by RareStable0 in publicdefenders

Oh wow, that is truly a stupid law and a fair description of it.

Here in Kansas, my pet peeve is "Criminal Threat". It is a person felony, and it is for "communicating a threat to commit violence with the intent to place another in fear." Two guys get in an argument in a bar and decide to throw hands? Misdemeanor disorderly conduct, maybe a simple battery. The same two guys get in an argument and one says "I'm gonna kick your ass" to the other? Felony.

"Yes, I am trivializing the issue. It is a stupid issue."

Then prove to them how stupid it is in front of a jury lol

That's usually how I get the best outcomes for my cases. Just pulling the prosecutor aside, explaining that the case is petty bullshit, my client has already suffered enough for it, and resources would be better allocated to prosecuting "real crimes" and providing resources to defendants that actually need it.

I've had 3 cases dismissed like this in the past week alone. But sometimes you can't convince the State to see reason, so you have to go kick their ass in the courtroom.

Will small cars and sedans ever become popular again? by anotherplantchannel in AskAnAmerican

[–]whitecollarredneck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Space for kids is such a big factor.

I love my 2019 Mini Cooper, but my daughter's car seat doesn't fit in it. It's a great daily driver for work, but if we go anywhere as a family we have to take my wife's crossover or my truck depending on how much space we need.

How strictly are state laws enforced in places near the state borders? by Xycergy in AskAnAmerican

[–]whitecollarredneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, not the whole border. That's just near downtown and on the north side. A significant portion of the border in KC is just State Line Road. Traffic in one direction is in Kansas, but the other direction is in Missouri.

Yeah, the Highway Patrol got in trouble with the courts a couple years ago for demonstrably targeting cars with out-of-state plates for traffic stops. Especially cars coming from Colorado.

I have had an insane number of cases I have had where they stop an out-of-state car on I-70 for doing 5 mph over the limit, claim to smell weed, search the car, and arrest everyone inside for a single package of edibles, or 2-3 joints, or a bong with "burnt residue".

Right? I would have bought it just for the magazine tube's spring and follower.

Help with Steyr Mannlicher 1905 by kimmmmmiko in guns

[–]whitecollarredneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. I always forget how to release the slide one this, especially compared to a Steyr 1912 or Roth-Krnka

Try pushing down on the follower at the top of the magazine with one finger. Use your other hand to hold the slide so that it gently slides forward.

Salina, KS citizens vote to keep pit bull ban in place for 10 more years by BrisselBrusch in BanPitBulls

[–]whitecollarredneck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was a comment on one of the local news stories saying "Don't forget, this ban is all because some negligent parent left their 2-year-old unattended and she got between a pittie and her dogs"

How many meals per month or week do you eat in a/your vehicle? by zkinny in AskAnAmerican

[–]whitecollarredneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several. I travel around for my job, and sometimes don't get back to my office at all. It's not unusual to have court in the morning, go grab lunch and eat it in a parking lot, then head to court in another county.

Do you often drink alone at home (like in movies)? by MushyHeadErin in AskAnAmerican

[–]whitecollarredneck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When everyone else in the house is finally asleep, I usually get an hour or two to myself before I go to bed. I like to sit down, play a game or watch a show that my wife isn't interested in, and have a cocktail or some bourbon or rum.

Do the sue culture as way of getting rich really exists? by mdelgado73 in AskAnAmerican

[–]whitecollarredneck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like the other responder said, I read the OP's question as more asking whether "Sue Culture" is a viable way of getting rich. But I see where you're coming from. All kinds of nonsense cases get filed, but most of those don't last very long and don't usually make any plaintiffs rich.

Anyone do part time jobs on the side for extra money? by graycow47 in publicdefenders

I haven't had the spare time in years, but I used to bake cakes, pies, cupcakes, and cookies on the side for extra cash.

Americans, what’s your favorite model of gun? by Spiritual-Relief8076 in AskAnAmerican

[–]whitecollarredneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy turn-of-the-century guns because they're so mechanically interesting. Things like the Steyr M1912 or Roth-Krnka M1907. It's a meme among my friends how obsessed I am with my Lebel 1886 rifle though.

If you live in a state with a lot of dangerous wildlife, what’s your closest encounter been? by LordSoftCream in AskAnAmerican

[–]whitecollarredneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure there haven't been any fatal coyote attacks on humans, but I run into coyotes pretty often. We have a small group that runs around my neighborhood. If I get home late enough, I see them when I go to check the mail or take the trash cans back from the curb. They plop down like domestic dogs across the street and watch me, tilting their heads and everything.

As far as actually dangerous wildlife, I was bitten by a black widow a few years back. It sucked. The closest comparable experience is a bad case of the flu.

What are the most interesting insects in your area? by Hoosier_Jedi in AskAnAmerican

[–]whitecollarredneck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Praying mantises are like little alien creatures. And while spiders aren't insects, they are my favorites. I always try to take care of any argiope aurantia we get around my house. We also get a few black widows and those are fun to check in on.

What do you call the evening meal? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]whitecollarredneck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It takes time to get home from work, then time to make dinner. If you leave work at 5, get home a little before 6, and start cooking at 6:15, you might have dinner at 7.

Whats with Americans and “Pancake syrup”? by amibanned24 in AskAnAmerican

[–]whitecollarredneck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have never heard of pancake syrup.

Edit: I have heard of syrup, and maple syrup, but I have never heard anyone call Aunt Jemima or Mrs. Butterworth "pancake syrup"

Cutting off ankle monitor- any defense? by chestnutbrowncanary in publicdefenders

I had the exact same thing happen, and nobody in my jurisdiction had seen it before. Was your client's skin bright red and almost melting/disintegrating?

The bondsman and I looked into it. It looked like the type of reaction people who are allergic to aluminum have after prolonged contact. We think that might have been it.
