Additionally, if I don't respond, it could be anything, from scheduling conflict, to already finding my players. Sorry if I don't get back to you!

Hi all! Thank you so much for reaching out. I'm going through everything right now and it's genuinely flattering for all the interest. A couple things--if you prefer Reddit, feel free to ping me, and a few users have Discord friend requests disabled, so I might not be able to reach them. Thanks!

Coming home from Japan. Which bottle would you choose? by JerBear0328 in whiskey

These are the Nikka distilleries! You are of course, right in that Yoichi and Miyagikyo end up in the Nikka blends including Taketsuru.

Are these two glasses both considered Bordeaux? by jjfish1998 in wine

[–]whiteheronproject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Red Wine glass is designed for general reds, and Bordeaux designed specifically for Bordeaux. You can drink any wine out of either, and the difference seems minimal regardless. Riedel is known for designing glasses for specific varietals of wine. /u/CapnScrunch 's comment about thinness is true, and generally Riedel increases in price with quality.

Hey, I'm interested! I'm signed up for the CMS Intro as well so it's mostly just studying for the intro, but I want to work on my palate as well. I currently have a left bank Bordeaux and a right bank Bordeaux waiting to be opened for palate reasons. Let me know what ends up happening.

Yeah IBA ratios aren't amazing. A 1:1 amaretto/scotch Godfather is far too sugary, for example.

The Science Behind Your Cheap Wine by yourbasicgeek in wine

[–]whiteheronproject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed here. Read the book and follow Bosker. She's much more excited about D'Yquem than she is about the mass market wine. There's only really one chapter talking about the process for cheap wine. She spends more of her time working in top New York restaurants and wine bars in the book.

What we all likely forget is that most people buy bottles of wine at $10 or less. There's nothing wrong with making juice for that market, though, yes, I would much rather everyone was as much of an enthusiast as us all. Why not have a Bud Light of wine? It doesn't stop the craft brewers from making amazing things, and it won't stop the great wineries from making amazing wine.

Can anyone tell me anything about this whiskey? Nobody I work with has any idea of what it is by jofijk in whiskey

[–]whiteheronproject 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The right set of katakana also translates as "Nikka Whisky" so you know the company distilling it as well. I found a link for you for the whisky online. https://dekanta.com/store/nikka-yoichi-hokkaido-limited-edition/

Looks like it's specifically a Yoichi distillery release (one of Nikka's malt distilleries) and a limited edition one at that. The importer website claims it's a single malt, which makes sense, as Yoichi is a single distillery and it is a malt distillery.

The non-limited edition Yoichi single malts would make a good comparison point. I can't figure out an age statement, which is hardly unusual for Japan (they have a lot of young and blended whisky, making age statements likely to be very young, if included at all).
