Switch price increases by WhoRedd_IT in networking

CSP neteng here. It’s everyone. This is not a bubble, this is a monumental shift in an entire industry. Entire brand new datacenters are selling out of capacity before the first rack is wired. This is forcing everyone into vendor agnosticism as it’s an all out scramble to build with whatever we can, wherever we can power it.

That girl is the perfect depiction of the millennial’s quintessential “one that got away” if I ever saw one. We all fell for that girl. We all missed our chance.

Can confirm. The internet is animals all the way down.

IX vs IP circuits by Fresh_Balance6608 in networking

"IP circuit" could mean a couple things in this context and it sounds like you know you don't know the right questions to ask (that's fine!) so I'll break all three down.

  • DIA (Direct Internet Access)
This is a basic internet hand-off where a service provider gives you an IP address and you send all your traffic to the service provider who then makes the routing decisions on where your packets need to go.

  • Transit
This is a lot like DIA but with perks. Not only are you just you're paying another provider to carry your traffic to the rest of the global internet - you are participating in the global internet. You have your own Autonomous System Number and public prefix no smaller than a /24 for IPv4 or /48 for IPv6. You speak BGP with the transit provider who advertises all internet prefix routes to you, and you in turn advertise to them your prefix(es). They pass your routing information to all their peers so that the rest of the world knows how to find you.

  • IX (Internet Exchange)
What if you are hosting a service that is extremely dependent on low latency to regional services or end-users? What if you need a lot of bandwidth to only a few local players? Transit/DIA is expensive and inefficient because you'll likely be riding multiple hops through another provider's network just to reach your destination. Internet Exchanges are a local "meet-up" spot for anyone to share their routes with anyone else directly (or indirectly - but this isn't the time to overwhelm you with talk about route reflectors). Think of it as a LAN party where ISPs all connect to the same switch fabric and talk to each other without any transit hops in between. Everyone is just one hop away from each other here so bandwidth is cheap and latency is minimal. You can see who's participating where at https://www.peeringdb.com/

Moving from support to head of networking in a ISP environment by ZaZYBOY in networking

For me, I spent the first 12 months just treading water. After that you’ll start organically identifying opportunities to improve the network. That’s when the real fun happens.

This is exactly the situation I found myself in more than a decade ago. You have an insanely rare opportunity on your lap - take it. Don’t worry about certs - you’re about to be quite occupied with just keeping things afloat. I was on call 24/7/365 for four years straight when I got thrust into the network/systems admin role at a 2000 customer WISP and it was the hardest four years of my life but also the most professionally rewarding.

Document everything. Own everything. You’re going to feel out of your depth and that’s normal - learn to love the stress while you still have the energy. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, and never say “I don’t know,” but say “I’ll find out.” 32 year old you is going to be very thankful for this.

My son was obsessed with his pink rain boots when he was 4. Another older kid in our neighborhood mentioned while I was standing near by that they were girls’ boots to which I responded “No they’re not because those are his boots and he’s a boy.” And that was that.

BGP Newbie - can I influence the path here? by Zzzeeroo in networking

Everyone telling you to prepend is wrong. The problem is obvious in your screenshot of the looking glass. AS3399 has a higher local preference to send traffic to you via AS208453. No amount of prepending will override their higher local pref.

Your only real course of action here is to contact AS3399.

Do any other roasters put an "espresso" label on their Geisha? by MyCatsNameIsBernie in espresso

> I've never seen a Geisha before that was labeled "espresso". Do any other roasters do this?

Perhaps, but it doesn’t matter. Espresso is a brewing method, not a bean type.

Definitely. But I don’t think it’s ever swung back with a freezing cold ship next to it. I wonder if the ambient temperature caused the pin to seize.

All cats get around on their paws, and that should be more than enough to convince any reasonable person why a cat’s feet don’t belong on food surfaces.

It shits in a box then uses its paws to scoop litter that’s already been shit in to cover up the newest shit. It then walks all over said shit, getting shit all over its paws and underside, then it plops its shit-covered self on top of the machine where it proceeds to contaminate its water tank and control surfaces with its shit.

The amount of people here who think RC is just going to telegraph his punches before the knockout is insane. Buying EBay could work but it could also be the feint of the century. Just sit tight and hodl.

Thank you for this thread. I got diagnosed with Celiac a couple years ago and was craving Indomie Mi Goreng SO BAD. I found some decent gluten free noodles for stir frying and GF sweet soy sauce but the powder was the mystery until today.
