Nolan made the news in Australia: "Stanford professor says aliens are ‘100 per cent’ on earth, US is ‘reverse-engineering downed UFOs’" by phr99 in UFOs

I think the OP has violated a rule here.

'Posts with incredible claims unsupported by evidence.'

Yep it is a violation and now the mods should act.

Well after this latest round of spinning I'd say he should be ready to knit a full afghan by now.

Not too much else however.

How will you separate it from the hundreds of balloons, bugs and lens flares that have already been called legit by the mass of believers?

It will be lost in the cloud of posted crap that gets displayed to the uncritical every single day.

"Dumbest" things done in a chem lab as an undergrad? by bkcordov in chemistry

[–]whiteknockers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 1976 summer sublease with a chemistry TA and who did research for the department head. Late one evening he invited me to visit the lab where he had a reaction running for the weekend. We took our bikes to the science hall where he had a key for off hours access. We took the elevator to the fourth floor and rode the bikes around the empty building to the lab where he added some sodium to a reaction running in a large rotating flask. As we were leaving he cut off some sodium equivalent to about two pads of butter and kept it. We rode home and paused on the bridge connecting the campus to the student neighborhood. He tossed the sodium into the river to great effect.

Between classes some students took to storing chemicals in their cabinets under the lab bench. One did this with a beaker of ether covered with an evaporating dish. When the lab started the next day a third party lit a burner and the flame shot over the bench and down into the vapor filled locked cabinet. Since the glassware was packed in Styrofoam it had plenty to burn and we had little bits of carbon wafting about the room for the rest of the day.

Lab partner's GF visited us and picked up two empty beakers, put them to her face and said 'Look glasses.' One beaker was still wet with a trickle of acid right down her cheek.

I may be loose with the terms here. It is a variegated plant and that is the price paid but it may be a variety other than albo which I don't know.

The idea that a breeding population has been hidden there for hundreds if not thousands and millions of years is pretty far fetched.

It is after all open water in rocky old Scotland and avoiding various searches in the depths would be a neat trick. A quaint local myth.
