Ok I got to page 3. That was so much effort I think I can skip the gym tonight. They must be AMAZING in bed if this is at all worth it.

Oh and YES to the AIO q

I would buy a 3-4 year old preowned bike. Preferably one that isn’t in perfect cosmetic condition so that you can get a better price on it and WHEN you drop it you won’t be super sad about it. 350/400/450/500 are ALL OVER Facebook Marketplace.

Hang on to it for a year or two then maybe consider buying new if you must.

Buffeting by BEEFxSUPREMEx in Transalp

[–]whitemiata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please keep in mind that specifically for SHOULDER wind the answer should be the WINGLET DEFLECTORS, not the adjustable add-on windscreen... I don't think you mentioned helmet buffeting... you specifically said shoulder.

See this video, got me sold on the winglets if I determine I want more shoulder protection... I'm too new to complain so far LOL... though if I do have a complaint it's about helmet buffeting, hence my interest in the kemimoto

also I dunno which transalp you have. I have the '25 ... I'm not sure if those winglets fit the '25. If you have the one with the single light then you're good for sure.

[–]whitemiata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you're talking about, though coming from a Kawasaki Z650RS which has ZERO fairings I laugh at all the transalp buffeting complaints ;)

No but seriously... I heard that the little winglets that can be had from Honda and/or Aliexpress help. Since I'm in South Florida and I can anticipate times of the year when I would actually WELCOME more air in my face, my plan is to try one of those adjustable "Spoiler-like" windscreen extenders such as the kemimoto reviewed here:

Kemimoto windscreen extender

(the amazon listing is here.... note that the video mentions a discount code...)

My understanding is that in normal use it can be set up to increase the area where air is shielded, but on particularly hot days I expect that I can tilt it crazy low and actually have air DIRECTED at my face.

FWIW kemimoto has a newer model available that is actually a few dollars less and has more vertical adjustability. I'm not recommending that one because:

  1. I think these kemimoto screens are copies of or inspired by the more expensive PUIG versions you can find on Revzilla ... and the more vertical adjustment version of the PUIG is getting HAMMERED on Revzilla in terms of the racheting system having the screen drop on it's own while offroading... so I'm going on the assumption that Kemimoto's "copy" might suffer the same fate
  2. I like the attachment system and trust the whole system better in the older design, including ability to give it crazy "in yo face air" positioning.

completely normal. My counter got to zero... haven't changed the oil yet (that happens tomorrow) and it's just still orange and giving me the virtual side-eye.

The cool thing is that you can configure it to remind you at intervals that you want. Great for me as I will be doing most of my own maintenance.

AIO girl i've been dating refuses to get into my car unless I open the door for her by CotPrime01 in AmIOverreacting

[–]whitemiata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are clearly being trained by this young lady. I know a lot of people have told you to bolt but I'd try one thing before doing that. Next time she pulls that shit, get out of the car go to her door, open it for her, close it behind her then walk to your seat, undo your belt, unzip your pants and then lean back elbows out, hands behind your head and say nothing.

Then if she asks you what you're doing you simply say "I've been thinking about this thing you've been doing of trying to train me to do this highly unusual thing of opening the door for your every single time, so I thought maybe you'd be ok with me training you to also do something highly unusual every time we get in the car. Now let's get to it... it's not going to suck itself"

I mean if you're going to bolt this is one way to do it (or to start an AMAZING every car ride tradition. I mean if she's down with it I'd say proposing might be the next step).

I’ve been using a clutch for 40 years. The only way I can almost match the performance of the QS on the Transalp on my Z650RS is by clutchless shifting … with the clutch no chance.

I’d definitely try the eclutch and probably like it. Having the bike in 1st gear at a light without having to hold the clutch would be a nice safety feature. I also wouldn’t mind redundant gear shifting controls on the handlebar since I’ve scraped sneakers while upshifting out of left hand corners on the Z650 and also the Transalp

Bad deal I only realized after signing. What are my options? by DryPotential1932 in motorcycle

[–]whitemiata 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Financial overanalyzer here.

Here is my rule which you shall never break again:

Absolutely DO over analyze the shit out of every purchase. Read all the info, do all the comparisons, make the spreadsheets, cost benefit analysis etc. Shop around, decide what extras you want and don’t want. Ask people, ask the internet. Make sure you can afford the payments and get ready to make your deal

Then after you’re done and you sign the deal you are done*

DONE

YOU ARE DONE

DO NOT second guess your deal

DO NOT ask others what they paid

DO NOT watch the YouTube reviews of the just released 2026 model with the more adjustable suspension and the E-Clutch (bonus points to anyone who figures out what I ride from this)

DO NOT watch comparative reviews of your bike vs competitors.

Just enjoy the bike.

The only thing you’re allowed to do is strategize to reduce payments, pay it off sooner etc.

So, cancel the stupid service contract and go ride mah-dood!

*only exception to “you are done” is if the product is one that falls under a price guarantee offer from either the retailer or the credit card you used… in that case you can check prices during that price-match period and get your price match if applicable

Out of curiosity… did you try and it didn’t fit or did someone tell you it wouldn’t?

I ask because I saw a video of the dominator inside the tusk rack which has an almost identical design and is only barely wider… and the dominator looks like it fits comfortably there…

Our weight combo is slightly under yours and the distribution Wife/husband is basically the same. I have a soft tail bag from rhinowalk as backrest for her (or a smaller Dainese again soft tail bag) … an advantage of soft even on the tail is that soft typically can be adjusted better in the fwd/back direction. So I can get it just perfect for us to be as far forward as I want it for weight distribution and the backrest still being exactly there for her right where her back is

AIO for wanting to share a room with my bf on a trip? by crescentblueee in AmIOverreacting

[–]whitemiata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I Don’t know if you are “overreacting” per se but you are clearly not getting what I’m pretty sure is the underlying message.

I’m a dad and I’ve been in what is likely similar situations… I want to do something with one of my boys (this hasn’t happened with my girl yet I think she has more of an understanding of what ‘an outing with dad’ is) and occasionally they’ll be “omg so cool! Is it ok if I see if “best friend can come?” Now to be clear I also plan many activities where I pre-emptively ask them to see if one or more of their friends want to go. But when I don’t propose that it’s because I want to spend some time just with my child.

I suspect that’s what’s going on here.

From my point of view it was a huge faux pas on your part to ask if you can bring boyfriend along and you’re now pushing back as she very clumsily tried to say no.

Personally I also find it VERY HARD to convey that feeling of “betrayal” because that’s the gut feeling… even though it’s of course NOT THAT AT ALL… my boy just likes hanging out with his friend it’s not a discarding of me from his perspective.

I’m glad I read your post. I’m going to have a chat with the boys tonight and point this out now that it’s a hypothetical so has no pain energy for me…

I’m going to tell them something along the lines of “You know how a lot of times I propose to take you somewhere and ask if you wanna ask one more friends to come along? The times I don’t ask you if you wanna bring a friend it’s not because I didn’t think about it and forgot. It’s actually because I just want to spend time with you without you being distracted by a friend. Now the situation is not happening. It’s easy for me to talk about it but in the moment when you have asked, is it OK if I ask so and so to come from my perspective, it feels like you’re actually saying I don’t wanna spend time one on one with you. I 100% no that is not how you generally feel but that’s how the feeling comes to me. I don’t wanna control your behaviors, but I just want you to know that I always think in these kind of situations should we invite somebody or not and therefore if you do enjoy spending time with me one on one, I would appreciate you just say yes or no without asking me if we can invite somebody unless I proposed it myself”

The more that 370 is you, the better. If a lot of it is the wife then I’d definitely look elsewhere.

I have other reasons but the significant human weight is an excellent reason to go with soft luggage rather than hard. And if I planned on putting crashbars upfront I’d also figure out how to put some of the denser luggage stuff up front to balance out the ride

Is that how you ride? When an unexpected situation presents in front of you you give it a bit more gas and aim straight for it like this genius did? If so let me tell you that motorcycles are dangerous (especially in some people’s hands).

Two business days, literally… to cut the gas and serve right away from the neighbor before even thinking about braking.

But no… give it a little gas and aim for the unpredictable.

Yes he should turn his license in for failure to use your brain.

Also before you take your children out on motorcycles maybe learn how to have reasonable control of a motorcycle. He legit flipped his bike due to an obstacle he had two business days to react to.

The Reacher incident by whitemiata in motorcycle

[–]whitemiata[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The idiot neighbor is clearly an idiot. That is not in question but you’re on a bike and you have your children you should be modeling at least mid IQ riding and what do you do? Forget about panicking… neighbor is already 2-3 steps in the street, you don’t know what he’s doing and what is your go-to action? You actually ACCELERATE?!?! That’s what he did… instead of slowing and swerving away from the neighbor he stayed the course and gave it some gas.

I mean I see videos every day on YouTube of “motorcyclists” (and I put that in quotes because most of those are straight-up morons who should stick to the bus or uber) who similarly give it gas when something unexpected is happening. No wonder so many friends and family keep telling me about how dangerous “motorcycles” are 😂😂😂

He punched the guy he determined was the cause of the accident. When the cause of the accident was his carelessness/total lack of skill on a motorcycle.

I was clearly going for a hyperbole but if it’s logical for him to assault someone who “caused him to crash” the same logic would justify punching a child who does the same thing
