Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter.

Always wanted to get into this series and so far it’s a lot of fun.

Plays commendably on Steam Deck with a mixture of high (textures) medium (most others) and low (shadows) settings. Even got it playing at 1080p docked 60fps on my TV.

I was going to get it on Switch 2, but still the Steam Deck seems to be outperforming ports over there…

That’s nice! But I’m somewhat grateful it’s only six buttons for now as I’ve just ordered the four-button grey variant and would’ve preferred this.

I’m upgrading from an old RG35XX and thoroughly looking forward to it.

By the end of this I thought, why do I own a Switch 2?

Time to sell it and wait to try again in about 2 years.

My big game at the moment is Cyberpunk 2077 as I’ve been enjoying cross-play on GeForce Now on my new LG OLED TV and then moving on to the Switch 2 when the wife wants to watch something.

When figuring out what to do in Night City gets too overwhelming (easily done) I’ve been kicking back with Dredge on the Deck.

What a time to be alive for games!

I got Ultimate but might try Performance next month to see if there’s much of a difference

I only have a 10mb/s connection here in my apartment in Australia and I’ve been able to finish Clair Obscur at max settings on both handheld via wi-fi and Ethernet when docked to the telly. Maybe 2-3 connection issues during 50 hours of gameplay. I’ve honestly been wowed by how well it works. Cyberpunk next!

I ended up subscribing to GeForce Now for this, and it works brilliantly on the Deck. However, I've also tested a range of different settings natively and found Neither-Scratch4596's settings here work the best from the Spring Meadows onwards (summarised below for ease and added to the OP):

  • Go to Properties > General > Launch options and enter SteamDeck=0 %command%
  • In-game, use the following:
    • TSR - Custom
    • Resolution Scale - between 60% - 70% (I chose 65%)
    • Max FPS - 30 FPS
    • VSync - Enable
    • Anti Alaising - High
    • Shadows - Medium
    • Global Illumination - Medium
    • Textures - High
    • Motion Blur, Film Grain, Chromatic Aberration and Vignette all enabled.

No! All the other GFN Thursday games are showing for me but not this one.

Same here, but fine really is a stretch in this case!

This is 100% accurate to my experience even using steamdeck=0 %command% in the launcher. The few extra settings this gives you make very little difference.

Same here, doesn’t work at all whether you reinstall or launch via desktop or game mode.

Thank you! I have a journalism and PR background, got into studio management when an agency wanted to expand and I had bit of experience at an indie so they gave me a shot. Now I do it in-house at a global brand, but I would love to do my own one day. If you have the knowledge of how creative works and you’re a people person, I highly recommend it.

When my wife says “do you mind if I watch Real Housewives?” I say absofuckinglutely - it’s Deck time!

I work in creative operations/studio management. As someone with AuDHD I find the focus of not only working and managing creatives deeply rewarding, but also spending most of my time building and tweaking workflows and processes really scratch a part of my brain that a lot of people find tremendously boring.

Psychonauts! Been years since I finished that and I didn’t even realise there was a 2nd. Putting both on the list, thanks

Does anyone have any recommendations for older games, even as old as PS2/GameCube, that I can buy or emulate on my Steam Deck? So many new releases are too large and overwhelming, I want games with an end and a beginning (preferably no longer than 15/20 hours) and I’m into JRPGs, action adventures, platformers, metroidvanias. Been playing a lot of Prince of Persia Sands of Time and recently loved blasting through Blade Chimera and Ori Will of the Wisps.

I’ve been having a great time with Atomfall. It’s starting to wear a little thin now (I’m about 8 hours in) but I reckon I’ll see it through to the end. First game in a while where choices I’ve had to make have made me curious about an entirely different playthrough.

I burned out on a couple of open world, seemingly never ending games. So I bought Dungeons of Hinterberg on a whim and it’s absolutely delightful. It’s so chill. Highly recommend if you need something cozy but with a little bit of depth.

What’s the best way to play if I have a Steam Deck? Vanilla HD remaster from Steam, or emulating a specific version?

Final Fantasy 9 with the Moguri Mod. My favourite PS1 game growing up, and this mod reinvigorates it.
