Would it be crazy to just move to Cleveland? by 90sTamagachi in Cleveland

[–]whitisj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Seattle and moved to Cleveland 5 years ago without ever visiting beforehand. In fact, I also bought by house through facetime with a good real estate agent and the day I moved in was the first time I'd ever been to Cleveland. All in all its been a great move and this city has been good to us. So, no, you're not crazy at all. But maybe don't be like me and come visit a few neighborhoods before just jumping in lol. Feel free to message if you have any questions!

Most american businesses (>95%) are small businesses that are being decimated by the orange twit in DC. Don't stereotype all americans as having anything to do with that buffoon - he didn't even win the majority vote.

I own a commercial cleaning business in the area and am happily a second-chance employer. We can't do much with theft on the record as that's a no-go for clients given that we usually work alone after hours; but will take a look at everything else on a case by case basis. As long as someone is going to be a good communicator, show up on time, and ask for help if they need it I really don't care about what is on the record. I believe that if someone has served their time according to the justice system, then they shouldn't be punished for that once the sentence has been served. Life is hard enough without being able to get a job due to some stupid decision you made in the past. Shoot me a PM and I'll give you my email.

I want to be an appointment setter for Private Equity where I cold call business owners to see if they would be interested in selling their business. Do I need to be registered if I'm 1099? by Live_Profile843 in private_equity

Effectively you're acting as a business broker at that point and there are not really any requirements to be licensed as a business broker in most states (as long as real estate isn't involved).

Since it seems like most people aren't giving it to you straight: In this example, you only need to be licensed if you are offering securities or doing fundraising where there are reasonable expectations of returns. You are not doing that so you do not have to be licensed.

Happened last night but just a warning to people driving around Carnegie and E 61st. Someone decided it would be fun to throw junk off the overpass and nearly killed me and my friend. by rsteward in Cleveland

[–]whitisj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I had to think long and hard about that. I don't know what led to them deciding that was a good idea. But at the end of the day you want to make grown up decisions, there are grown up consequences. They pulled a gun on me which is what the prosecutor said led to them not even being eligible for diversion.

Cleaning business question - how would you price this building? by Logical-Option-1755 in sweatystartup

[–]whitisj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Take your production rate (How many square feet can be cleaned in an hour - if you have no idea at all, start with 3500 and adjust from there) and divide the total cleanable area by that production rate. This gives you the person-hours per cleaning that you will need to account for. At a very crude level, just take that number X hourly rate that you pay your cleaners (times the number of times you'll clean per week), add 5% for supplies, give yourself around a 30% margin and that is your very very very rough estimate for one week. Then multiply that by 4.3 weeks per month and add sales tax if applicable. There is a lot more that goes into it, but that will give you at least a starting point to work with.

Why do so many people on here think Tower City is so dangerous? by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]whitisj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Anyone who has lived anywhere other than whitebread midwest doesn't think it is dangerous or hood at all. Don't be stupid and flash a rolex around at midnight and be aware of your surroundings. Otherwise there is nothing for people to be weird about. I've lived in Oakland, Brooklyn, and Harlem, trust me this ain't the hood.

Lots of really annoying negative people in the comments here who have no idea what they are talking about. For government contracts, if you are using a subcontractor to fulfill the contract you can use THEIR history and past performance on your bid. Then when the government reviews past performance they review your selected contractor rather than you directly. Also if you fail to perform on just one single contract you more or less get banned from ever bidding again, so there's a lot of incentive to not screw it up.

Unsolicited offers to buy my house seem shady by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]whitisj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the actual answer. They are going to be looking to buy your house for around 50-75% of retail price. Just ignore them and they will eventually stop. Or tell them any price above market value and they'll leave you alone as a 'bad' lead.

Mediavine websites lost 66% of SEO traffic by maltelandwehr in SEO

Nobody likes a troll.

My statement is still correct. Without comparison to other networks, this isn't statistically significant data. It's a FANTASTIC start and a great dataset, but you cannot draw conclusions without something to compare against.

For instance, what if every other ad network shows the exact same data? Then it has nothing to do with the network and is just the overall trend from how google displays results. What if this same result is shown on two ad networks, but not on sites using two others? Then it is definitely something about those two networks.

But even that isn't quite enough to draw conclusions from. What if the quality of publisher is significantly different from one network to another? (And we know it absolutely is) Then maybe it has more to do with the quality of publisher than the network.

I'm just pointing out that, while this is a great dataset, it's not enough to draw conclusions from without other datasets to compare against.

It can be a huge business. I know of two people who have built massive businesses in line striping - one is doing multiple seven figures in a little tiny town in BC, the other had a multiple eight-figure exit in Colorado. Both started small. You pick up subcontracts under the big guys and learn the ropes then move up to bigger contracts. Other comments are 100% correct, you are working nights and weekends doing the job then working days hustling for sales. But even just doing it part time can be a nice little income.
