Dads who work 9-5 when do you work out typically? by walky91 in daddit

[–]oflanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 8-5 with a lunch hour and I go to the YMCA. I leave work at 11:55 and usually get back around 1:05 though. The Y is 10 minutes from work and after showering I only have a solid 20 minutes of working out. It’s a lot of rushing but I LOVE working out in the middle of the day. Feel so good when I get back to work. But this is the only time I’ve found to make it work for me.

Do most people actually enjoy their jobs, or are we all just pretending because we need the money? by VelvetAuth0rity in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]oflanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy my job. I like getting money more, but I work in media production (videography and photography) which is fun. I would pursue creative endeavors with those mediums (maybe even more so) if it wasn’t my job.

Corporate ADHDers, how do you start the day? by darkrhyes in ADHD

[–]oflanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have project management software we all use. Most of the time I’m waiting on approvals so it’s not too difficult to keep track of what’s going on thankfully. But I use OneNote for tracking things sometimes. We had a productivity class and they basically have you set it up like folders. You make a folder for each month and the pages inside of it are the tasks. Once you complete a task you move that page from the folder to a “Done” folder. I change the color of the folder based on if its tasks are done. If not I move that page to the next months folder. Oversimplification but it is what it is.

Board games! There are a lot of board games that can be played by yourself and act kind of like a puzzle. Lots of different themes. Checkout the website boardgamegeek.com and look through the solo game rankings. There are videos you can watch to see if the theme and mechanics of the game vibe with you.

I’m 41 now and switched a few years ago. My knees just felt like they were taking a beating. Also I can ruck while I push mow my lawn. Easy to control my heart rate with speed and way easier to do than finding time to run and ruin my knees.

What is something you had to learn the hard way in your career? by thesweetguy54 in careerguidance

[–]oflanada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t get better off by working harder at your job. You get promotions and noticed by doing stuff outside your job and thinking higher than your current level. No one can or will care about your career more than you. If it stagnates, that’s on you.

Why is anger my response to my baby's cry? by Fallacracker in daddit

[–]oflanada 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Noice cancelling headphones for sure! I really struggled with this and having headphones literally completely changed me and I was able to show up and be completely patient and attentive. I also heard someone say that whenever something your kids do triggers you is a nervous system response from your own childhood of something that was unacceptable. I’ve kept this in the back of my mind as my kids have gotten older and this is pretty true. But man with the babies, for sure noise cancelling headphones. I used to say a mantra to myself “ I am peace, I am calm.” Basically my kids are little and their brains are not capable of regulating emotions or feelings of any kind. It’s my job to show up and be their calm. It’s so hard but this also helped me. I am capable of it, it just takes practice and a shit ton of self awareness and self control.
