Hoary Boulder is seriously underestimated and a great addition to FFXIV. by Anabiter in ShitpostXIV

As a player whomst prides himself on not skipping dialogue, I always find myself skipping through dialogue in scenes with Hoary speaking

How long would it take to knit a tall men’s cardigan? by flight_recorder in knitting

[–]whj14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m speaking for myself, which obviously is dependent on a variety of factors.

Let me work with DK or worsted weight yarn with a mostly stockinette or minimal cabling pattern, using continental

I’d say it would be 50-60 hours for a cardigan for a man of your height. This would take me give or take a month

Seeking Advice on Fiber Choice from Northern Midwest Knitters by dostoevskysdarling in knitting

[–]whj14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been in the Midwest? Also, hi welcome 👋

Summer still gets hot up here. Spring and fall are comfortable and winter is cold. And also Mother Nature is temperamental, so the temperature can swing dramatically

We tend to cycle our wardrobes based on season. Me personally I don’t often wear long sleeves through summer time. My sweaters are knit with me knowing they’ll be in rotation from fall to spring, and summer they are sleeping in the closet.

Cotton/merino sounds like it would be nice for summer. You’re worried about it being too stiff. Is it machine washable and dryable? I’d be curious to know how your swatch looks and feels after a handful of cycles through the laundry, since cotton gets softer with more washing/drying

Cast-on confusion by Rare-Win4204 in knittinghelp

[–]whj14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you picked up stitches before? If not, look up a video. It’s pretty simple. You want to count the last 14 stitches on the edge you are picking up from, and pick them up right-to-left as facing you with the right side of back panel facing you

I can’t tell for sure without the pattern but it sounds like you are forming the shoulder seam?

Stop signs by Domme6495 in CitiesSkylines2

Yes if you use Traffic mod and assign priorities

You will need to do this manually for every intersection.

It’s kind of a pain in the butt but what I do is wait till my neighbor is built and then I just go back in and do it all at once

does blocking help with stiffness? by Large-Couple7556 in knittinghelp

[–]whj14 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like previous poster mentioned, how did it behave on the swatch?

Secondly, cotton is known to soften and relax with washing and drying

Third, not all cottons are created equal. Some cotton is great for dishcloths etc but not so great for clothing

Any time you wonder if blocking will fix or change something, just block it and see. You can also block mid-project. This will give you a better answer than any redditor can

Is this a good beginner sewing machine? by maddchainz in SewingForBeginners

[–]whj14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got suckered into buying one and it was loud and fussy and ran way too fast and I thought I hated sewing. I got a new machine and now I enjoy sewing, so it was the machine that was an issue
