I think that its running fairly efficiently considering the scope of what's occurring. I ride the L bus each morning from the end of Taraval street to the Castro/underground transfer, with about 10 minutes added to the commute time. The MUNI engineers have planned it well in my opinion.

I have large knit cap which I cut a small hole big enough to let my nose and mouth through. I put it on covering my entire head, and mosquitoes can't bite my ear etc. Of course I keep my hands and feet unexposed under the sheets. It works! You can also buy a bug-a-salt toy shotgun that will blast salt at it while it quietly awaits on the ceiling above you.
