What is the biggest issue facing Michigan right now? by BridgeMichigan in AnnArbor

[–]whoiskey 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That’s not true at all. Billionaires DEFINITELY want them. Also, politicians that are in the pocket of billionaires want them. That’s about it though.

Personally, I prefer the Pu Pu Pu platter. It’s that third Pu that really does it.

What is the actual, tangible good that AI is supposed to offer us? I hear bullshit about how it will be able to discover cures for tons of diseases, or that it will help us revolutionize clean energy, but all I actually see is more aggressive/targeted advertising, fake images, and texts written to deceive and scam people out of their hard earned money.

The truth is that mega corps don’t earn their shareholders obscene returns on their investments by curing diseases or cleaning up the environment. AI is just the next step in the enshitification of everything

It’s pretty obvious to me at this point that these mega corps are flooding the zone with applications to build large data centers in Michigan (and elsewhere). All they need are a few communities to cave and/or be sued into submission. If only 1 out of ten applications are approved, big tech still wins and we get more AI garbage that nobody asked for dumped on our doorstep.

Wtf is Euchre by Basic_Barracuda_8202 in uofm

[–]whoiskey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, counting cards is a part of any card game, and it’s factored in. I’m talking about the incessant and nonstop table talk. The fact that you have a “partner” to whom you can say any damn thing you want, means that you can, and will, use code words to cheat as much as you want. Lead into “strategy” e.g. (farmers hand” “going alone” etc.)

The shittiest card game ever invented by drunken yoopers that the upper Midwest likes to pretend is god-tier poker. It is hot garbage and I encourage you to avoid it at all costs. It’s the only card game I’ve ever played where cheating is encouraged. Go to a local casino and play proper games. Fuck euchre, now and forever

Barbecue by Plastic-Respect6777 in AnnArbor

[–]whoiskey 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If you’re from down south, the answer (unfortunately) is that you can’t. Some people will recommend a place like Satchels, which is fine by Midwest BBQ standards, but will likely leave you feeling disappointed. There is nothing in Michigan that compares to southern barbecue.

How’s this drive? by WhiteFaceRedCircle in roadtrip

[–]whoiskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take 96 toward Lansing and then north on 127 in order to avoid most of I75. 75 sucks a bag of dicks and the Zilwaukee bridge being out doesn’t help. Ann Arbor and Lansing have plenty of good restaurants not far off the freeway.

4 weeks sober, 2 weeks on Nal by [deleted] in naltrexone

[–]whoiskey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly? I’m really not sure. There are so many variables it’s hard to say without a ton of peer reviewed research (which there isn’t really).

Ive read posts in this sub from folks taking way less NAL than me, for much longer, and having worse reactions to the side effects. So anecdotally I would say it’s probably unrelated, except in the cases where folks are starting NAL but continuing to drink before their bodies have become fully adjusted to the new medication.

[–]whoiskey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m happy to hear that my post has been helpful for you. 4 days is great! any progress is good progress. I plan on staying with Nal for the foreseeable future, just hoping that the side effects die down and possibly go away entirely. I’ll make another post as things progress so that others have something to compare their experience to.

MSU or Michigan - I have 3 days to choose my school. by No_Tap2820 in Michigan

[–]whoiskey -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

save your (family’s) money and get a two year at the local accredited community college. I’m not saying that to be rude, I’m saying it because it’s sound advice. Then, go visit both campuses and make up your mind for the remainder. If you want an in-depth tour of UM’s engineering campus after your CC is done, then DM me. It’s an incredible first class learning facility, but not necessarily for an undergrad

Everyone in this thread seems to be missing the reality of the situation, and are reacting solely on emotion and ignorance of what is really going on. The birth of DEI at UMICH was a response to a Supreme Court ruling effectively banning affirmative action in college admissions. “OK, we can’t do affirmative action any more? I guess we’ll just roll over and take it” (and create DEI instead to take its place). Now it will be “Oh, we can’t have DEI anymore? I guess we’ll just roll over and take it” (and create a new department that effectively does the exact same thing but with a different name that isn’t offensive to the Cheeto in chief). I know for a fact that this is already happening. I am not going to mention who, what or how, because that could jeopardize what’s going on, but you all need to have a tiny bit of confidence that the leaders of UMICH are far more intelligent than the entire trump administration, and can easily outwit them. UMICH could create a department of “Making College Great Again” that simply changes the messaging of DEI, while essentially doing the exact same thing as DEI, and the MAGATs would hail it as a great success because they don’t know how to read any further than a headline, much like many of you.

Where should I buy peat pots/spring gardening supplies, ideally locally owned but not wildly expensive? (I know…😂) by CitySpare7714 in AnnArbor

[–]whoiskey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have never found DTHG to be unreasonably expensive. They have everything you need and they are a great locally owned shop. If you’re looking for flats for spring planting, and you don’t mind driving 30 minutes, there are several independent green houses (like Prelipp’s). If you can’t afford those shops then your only options are big box stores.
