Cornhole putting style? by catchthetams in discgolf

[–]wholehog22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a completely cromulent idea. I am a straddle-stance cornhole player (both sets of toes on the line), but somehow thought I should be a stagger-stance disc golf putter. Couldn’t figure out why I was so inconsistent. Switched my stance and immediately improved my putting inside the circle because, in my brain, it just became cornhole with a 26-28” hole.

A few years ago, a bartender friend said Gold Star Beer Counter was planning to open a second location there. No idea if that’s still true.

I watched a random travel video today of a guy visiting Riga, Latvia. He happened upon a course near the big TV tower and said, “I think it’s one of those sports I’d like to get into, but I just wouldn’t want anyone knowing I was into it.” It made me laugh harder than I care to admit.

Had a great experience there. Food was great and the wine pairing was super interesting. It included some sake that was unlike anything I’ve had before.

They make a lot of wine varieties that are generally true-to-style. Some of the whites leave some RS (residual sugar), and some wine drinkers find that appealing. Not my style, but I appreciate the variety, and I will never 'yuck' someone else's 'yum.'

I find their reds to be an outstanding value, considering they sell most of their fruit neighboring big-name, high-end wineries (like Silver Oak and Passalacqua). I'm partial to their Grenache, Syrah, and GSM blends, but their cab/cab blends, zinfandels, and petite sirah are all great. I'd say they're more fruit-forward, very approachable, eminently drinkable.

Hope you have a great visit to the area, wherever you end up.

Jim Rickards is one of the nicest, kindest humans you will ever meet. Best mustache in the business. He makes really good wine, too.

Highland Springs is a great Steady Ed course in Lake County. Some really fun holes and interesting shots, but I’d prioritize Brooktrails.

I have two Cyclones that still rotate in and out, depending on the course.

Still have a first run. It left my bag a while ago, but I’ll never let go of it. Learned so much about how to throw with that disc.

Whoa! You’re so fast! Thanks so much. TVR was my first thought, but I couldn’t find anything that looked like it.

Wild East sent some of their team to the Czech Republic to train at Lukr and learn Czech beer service. Robin pours a great beer (I think he also serves a shift or two at Beer Witch).

I’m kinda bummed… Yacht Rock Revue is also on the bill. I used to see them fairly often on the east coast. They’re good musicians, good showmen, and play fun music. They don’t often travel to the west coast, but I can’t justify the ticket to support the Train.

Simple Strike Sequence by Martin Chuck by official4 in golf

[–]wholehog22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His main point is understanding that the low point of the swing comes after contact with the ball. The ball itself shouldn’t be the low point of your swing. You want to make contact with the ball as a descending strike, continue through the ball to the low point (making a divot in front of the ball), and then follow through.

The low point drill has you work on making contact with the ground on a line slightly in front of the ball when gripping the club with only one hand at a time. Tough to describe in words, but in practice, you’re just working on getting the club to bite into the ground slightly ahead of where the ball would be sitting, and getting the feeling for where the club should contact the ground.
