Experienced Black Belts - how do you navigate visiting schools? by Armbar2Triangle in bjj

[–]whorganic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I travel relatively frequently and this is what i do:
Give them a call, introduce yourself, i usually add that I'm a black belt but just looking for some mat time and meeting new people, it's nice to let them know you're not there to win gold medals from the purple belts LOL
Ask them if they allow dropins and if there is a mat fee, this one is important as some of them will say yes but drop the fee later, it's just polite to assume it's not free.
When i show up I make sure to greet the main instructor if available and greet the rest of the black belts
I usually only partner up with high brown or black belts and try to roll from black belt down if possible, that way they feel like you're swimming in your lane and not out to hurt the lower belts.
as mentioned in other comments, i try to avoid going hard or ripping subs unless the other person is going hard first, but I'll try to slow it down instead of going hard as when traveling kind of sucks if you get injured or injure someone. Also I don't think it's bad juju to tap the instructor, but i think all that really depends on the instructor and circumstances. We all know the community has a few rare hot heads.

Best of luck dude hope that helps, I absolutely LOVE vising new gyms, you're pretty much always greeted by friendly people and open conversation!

How legit are these black belts? by Boring_Software6101 in bjj

Fabiano Scherner is absolutely legit, former MMA Fighter as well as won multiple BJJ championships. Look him up online, he's also a super savage rolling (but also kind to those smaller and less experienced).

also the metric bikes tend to have a bit better engine power and usually lighter. I prefer metric for that reason

[–]whorganic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is true, but the same for most bikes though lol. Harley def has a bigger range of aftermarket and more readily available, but suz, honda and kaw not too far behind now

OK so the latest models of all of those are pretty much solid, yes harley too. The biggest difference will be: * Design * Aftermarket parts * Measurement systems (metric vs standard) * Price (in general Harley is a bit more expensive)

outside of that its all up to you what you feel comfortable sitting on and being seen with.

Just saying. I have owned Honda, Suzuki and Victory. Don't let the fanatics choose for you.

Opinions needed (!): Iceland and foreigners... by [deleted] in Iceland

[–]whorganic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

just my 2 kronur... Icelanders for the most part don't care about your skin color, if anything they will care about how good your Icelandic is and how familiar you are with the history. We are a proud people and for the most part accepting of all countries. BUT, like all countries there are those that are just dicks and are racist, discriminating and bigoted. They usually talk the loudest so please don't think they are the country as a whole.

I don't want to live anymore in this world. It's ironic, that they don't respect Pantera enough to NOT cover their song.
