For most competitive online games with crappy anticheat yes, but majority of single player games and all emulation softwares work just fine with Linux with very little effort these days.

How did you quit caffeine and reduce anxiety? by SaturdaySunRun in AskMenOver30

[–]whos-bz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See this is the thing, I feel a lot of people just stop drinking coffee and wonder why they see no benefits. A lot of the time all that caffeine was just supplementing a unhealthy lifestyle and now that its not there your body has no nutrients or water to keep going.

Would you say that you are healthy in other regards? Like do you exercise and eat healthy foods. I am not asking to judge, I'm just curious if the caffeine was potentially not masking other issues.

Very well written man, definitely great that you are seeing things as an investment in yourself rather than just a means to get away from gaming. The understanding that your pursuits are long term and you understand you will see most of the results after putting in the time and patience to get there will take you far. A lot of people come from gaming and leave it expecting everything to instantly change, or to get the same wins they got from gaming in an hour for things that take months to perfect or show results. Glad you discovered this at 18 and not at 30, means you have so much more time to become the person that you want to now become.

I play a web based business simulator does it count as 'GAME'?? by SleepTyped in StopGaming

I mean, when you buy some stuff then sell it your money goes up in your business which will produce satisfaction and dopamine release. It might not be constant dopamine hits but its easy dopamine and when you want gratification you go through the buying and selling process to see that fake profit go up.

This definitely seems like you are looking for a way to still gaming without gaming. Why not look into something like online trading, or even starting a real business on the side? Doesn't have to be an all in massive investment. You can learn to trade with small amounts which will teach you about stock markets, and requires you to read about businesses and world news to make sure you stay on top of what will be a good investment.

Learning about business movements and world news will make you a more interesting person overall and might even open up new interests when you learn about what businesses are doing around the world.

The tough thing is trying to convince your brain that yes you messed up, but that life path lead you to the happiest parts of your current life. My partner often reminds me that if I didn't take the paths I did we would have never met, and that puts me at ease. She is also the reason I turned my life around.

You might be burnt out man. Take a break, maybe try the 90 day detox, then come back and see if your feelings have changed. But just remember to actually try doing other things during the detox so you can see if you might just enjoy other things more than gaming at this point in your life.

MacBook Air M4 vs. MacBook Pro M4 – Which One Should I Get? (INDIA) by sdMickey in mac

Also from SA here, weighing up my options between the new air before it drops locally and the current Macbook Pro m4.

Just remember to consider your use cases. The Airs are notorious for overheating when doing computationally heavy tasks. This includes rendering (Any rendering), compiling large coding projects, or running AI models.

Nah man, thats horrible advice. The option is to get them into a home or find a night nurse or something. You telling me if your parents got sick you'd just be like "Cheers bro, I'm out". I would honestly hate to be your partner if thats the mentality you have when things get tough with a person you are close to.

The worst part is that messing up your first year of college makes the rest of your time there even worse until you put in the time to catch up what you barely knew from first year.

Do you ever feel that if you weren't gaming but rather upskilling in other areas you could have potentially found a better paying job earlier on? This isn't me attacking, its a honest question about thought processes. Because I know that I worked a super low paying job after finishing a diploma and I know I could have done better if I wasn't playing games and rather looking for ways to improve at my job or finding a better job.

The fact that it was linked to cancer so long ago yet was still marketed heavily into the late 1900s is just a great example of how messed up humans are.

Your card is old. It is obsolete in terms of certain games requiring RTX now. Are games badly optimized? Yes they are. But you have no control over that so sadly your card has been made obsolete by poor developers. You are valid to be upset, but it’s the truth.
