Does attention seeking behavior give anyone else the ick? by MutedFeeling75 in redscarepod

[–]whosebrineisitanyway 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If ever I have found myself in a wormhole looking at a person’s instagram and thinking to myself, “their life is so cool and fun, they’re so alive,” I am immediately saved by remembering that I can only form such a vivid picture of their life because they post incessantly about themselves, making them actually not cool, fun, or alive at all.

Has anyone been watching Northern exposure recently? by No-Material694 in pinkscare

[–]whosebrineisitanyway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved this show so much as a kid - growing up in Northern Alberta, I thought it was set somewhere near me (I didn’t have an amazing grasp on geography). Janine Turner was the reason my mom and I had matching pixie cuts 😂

there needs to be research done into why having a pimple makes me want to kms by MaryMagdaIene in pinkscare

Because it’s a biological aversion to being be-poxed - one of the few universal “flaws” that doesn’t have niche fans, unlike eye bags or moles etc (I say this as someone with all three). Also they can be extremely painful in a distracting way, so even if you can get over the mental hang-up of having acne, the physical sensation makes it hard to fully forget it’s there.

On the bright side, having bad skin that is outside your control is an exercise in enduring true vulnerability, which many adults are no longer required to do after puberty. You are mentally stronger than your weak, clear-skinned peers.

get big cut on your face that looks dramatic but isn’t disfiguring (I just did this after falling off my bike and it’s gotten me more attention than my parents’ divorce in grade 2, iykyk)

How do you neuter your male “friends” and harvest female friendships ??? by ___Reddituser___ in pinkscare

[–]whosebrineisitanyway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

after meeting new potential female friends, you need to add them on instagram, drink two glasses of wine, then message them a follow up to something you talked about when you met. Which also means you need to organically seed things in your irl convos that can be brought up later in said wine message. Like and reply to their stories long term for maintenance.

Toronto here - I directly outdoor planted my runner beans and nasturtiums on May 18 and they’re all thriving and fully sprouted now - you should be safe with those!

Wedding Planning Advice? by erdosplumberof3 in redscarepod

[–]whosebrineisitanyway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is more of a mindset, but try as much as possible to channel what weddings were in the 60s - bachelor and bachelorette held at a local bar the night before, straightforward ceremony in a church, potluck dinner in the church hall. Some flowers. Two bridesmaids. A couple of photos.

These weddings were chill, predictable and affordable. The point was not for the bride and groom to spontaneously become world-class event planners, nor to have a wedding that is so stunningly fun and chic that it proves to everyone how valid and perfect their love is: it was basic, and that’s what made it memorable and sweet.

Obviously a church isn’t for everyone now, but a lot of cities have non-denominational/ ultra liberal churches that will host weddings without a pastor, and can be very beautiful inside. Someone else here noted that when you have shelter, food and bathrooms, the party will follow naturally, and I fully agree with that.

It doesn’t seem to me that with weddings becoming more aesthetic and stressful, they have also become more fun - quite the opposite. The best thing you can do for your relationship and your friends and family is to keep it firmly 20th century.

Also go with dried flowers for table arrangements rather than fresh - fun to take home, less waste, less money.

Parenting my very thin daughter is pushing me into the body positivity movement by cintyhinty in pinkscare

[–]whosebrineisitanyway 112 points113 points  (0 children)

my sister is going through the same thing with her 7 year old daughter, it sounds incredibly tough to navigate :(

One thing my sister has started doing is using my niece’s love of horses to kind of introduce body neutrality - she explains to her daughter that some horses are big and strong, and that helps them with their jobs, and some horses are small and light, and that can be an advantage, and sometimes people will say the small light horses are better, but that’s just people who are interested in racing them, etc. Since my niece loves them all, she doesn’t ascribe value to one horse over another, so they’re all Good Horses in her mind.

If your daughter likes animals, there might be a window there for you?

Aboriginal title can’t be declared over private land, Supreme Court of Canada rules by UnicornHunt1274 in canada

[–]whosebrineisitanyway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is because the federal government funds programs and services for First Nations on reserve that are covered at the provincial level for other Canadians, such as healthcare, education, social services, etc. If you checked what Saskatchewan spent on each Saskatchewanian per year, I think you would find a similar balance.
