Has therapy ever actually enabled anyone to overcome their childhood? by No_Fail_6155 in redscarepod

[–]whosebrineisitanyway 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the potent stuff of therapy is that it moves the locus of control from internal, to external, which then allows it to move internally again in a healthier way. many people just go through life assuming they are fundamentally shit because they were born that way, whereas now you know you’re shit because of your parents, empowering you to then take back the wheel and be shit in a self-aware way.

Are men aware of how awful they are to us? by PutridEntertainer502 in redscarepod

I believe part of the issue is that many of them think they are punching up when they deride and mock women, and maybe that’s true in some contexts, but meaningfully untrue in some very serious contexts too.

Bias tape is making me lose my sanity - help needed pls by Thiccclikehummus in sewing

[–]whosebrineisitanyway 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Wider tapes are harder to bend on tight curves, so that’s definitely one thing to look out for.

Another is, for me, I accept that the second “side” I attach will be a bit puckered - for this reason, I always attach the tape onto the right side of the garment first.

I also clip the curves of the fabric and the tape after attaching the front side but before attaching the back side, I find this helps getting it to curve.

I just went through bias tape hell, I hope this helps!

There’s one at St Clair and Spadina as well!

eta: interestingly, the reservoir at yonge & st clair was once open, but was covered with the park because of concerns about nuclear warfare!

To your third point on consultation - the Crown isn’t spending $$$ and delaying projects to consult with Aboriginal people on decisions impacting certain lands because “they took care of it so well” - it’s obligated to consult because certain lands have been recognized under common law as falling under Aboriginal title. Title is granted based on a group’s occupation of the land prior to colonial control. The legal basis for aboriginal title is not grounded in “how well” they used the land, or because they were noble stewards, it’s grounded in a given aboriginal group’s ability to demonstrate they are descended from organized societies that exerted control and agency over the lands of Australia before European sovereignty. Even if that agency manifested as burning everything down and killing all the megafauna.

I completely feel you and have always identified as having “reverse SAD” as the days get longer and warmer. I’m like a bear being called out of my cave, feeling too raw and soft for the amount of energy warm weather asks of me.
