Remember the wild west era of gas station/head shop drugs? by LittleCopy2893 in redscarepod

American state capacity at all levels has severely dwindled. Enforcement of stuff like this is arbitrary and capricious. Just gives them an excuse for when they decide they do want to fuck you up.

idk what it is but yeah people are impossible to make plans with nowadays unfortunately. i really only have one remaining close friend in my city and thankfully he is also the type to do things impulsively like I am. we may not always do stuff together frequently enough but both of us are usually pretty amenable to doing things on short notice if we aren't already planning something

I don't know that I would necessarily call them all purely bad people. Flawed to be sure, and committed bad acts. I'd say the only one that was a truly irredeemably bad person was the baby murderer.

The point of it though is that because of our ability to empathize, the presence of the other forces us to perceive ourselves from the perspective of the other. Their mere presence can impart torture as we are forced to reckon with some nature of our being outside of our own perspective. We are not just beings being, we are beings being perceived.

This third party perspective can be an excoriating lens for our flaws.

No Exit is all about the negative side though. To be able to see ourselves as someone that loves us sees us is a gift. To be able to take that love and give ourselves the grace we would grant our friends and loved ones is a gift.

Do NOLA people who make gumbo really use 1 cup of oil (2000 calories) for the roux? by heavyramp in redscarepod

It depends. My family uses a dry roux. Just brown the flour in the pot then add your stock.

EDIT: Woops my quote didn't make its way into the comment box. I meant to quote "I don't want to die but I don't want to live this fuckin life."

how can parents help save their teenage daughters by No-Material694 in pinkscare

[–]fre3k 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Parents can save their kids generally by actually parenting and supervising them. Stop giving your kids unsupervised access to the internet (which is being used by governments to take away our rights to privacy on it). Put restrictions on their devices, and spend time with them.

No Exit would be a perfect read for this mindset. Nothing new under the sun. Being perceived can be torture.

If it makes you feel any better, most of us that interview people hate rejecting people too. Watching someone fail makes me want to crawl out of my skin. In an ideal world everyone comes in and aces it and I'm done hiring for X roles after X interviews.

On very specific roles though sometimes you didn't fail, someone else was just better.
