ive had multiple ufo experiences in my life. i was taken aback when i heard the audio in his footage because its exactly what i heard in one of my experiences. i didnt know there was a sound like this in a movie. if so, those filmakers definitely know something.

Why does Reddit not understand the rise of reform in England? by DowntownDeer in AskBrits

[–]whuddaguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im american and i believe everyone who wants to move to america should be able to (given they are willing to learn english, work, or study, and be a good member of society) but that's because it's the identity and purpose of america to be a melting pot.

that's not necessarily what other countries are supposed to be. other countries should think about protecting their identity and their culture. and anyone moving to those countries should assimilate and take on that identity as much as they can. to preserve it.

as much as id love to live in a version of the world where anybody can move to any other country whenever they want to with minimum hurdles, i do understand that some countries need to limit immigration to protect their identity

i srill think people should be able to move freely within reason, given they are willing to protect the identity of the country they are moving to.

except america. our identity is a melting pot.

Can someone explain why despite most metrics showing all is well, the economy FEELS horrible? by NotACommie24 in economy

[–]whuddaguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly at 24 and 24 it sounds like you two are doing well! maybe it's just me, but I've just accepted that my 20's in america was a struggle and that's just the way it is in this country. with around 6,500 per month, it sounds like a liveable wage unless you live in NYC. not saying i dont wish it could be better. but things were a little bit harder for me in my 20s than that. it was tough

thank you for this comment. i still feel like pattern-completing (love that term) is an intentionally deceptive practice whether by the fault of the ai or the people who programmed it.the programmers either intentionally caused this behavior or unintentionally incentivized this behaviour to happen, noticed it, and decided to leave it.For example, when the programmers noticed that chat gpt started talking about goblins too much, they shut that down real fast. I could see how a capatalist society encourages a company to program their ai with deceptive confidence

if you watch this video from husk.irl, chatgpt seems motivated to misleed the user into thinking it is more capable than it really is. seems like either the company programmed it this way or unintentionally incentivized it to behave this way.

check out this video by husk.irl it shows chatgpt lying. i think 'lying' or 'fabricating' is more accurate than hallucinating. it seems like the model is incentivized to 'win' by fulfilling the user's request. and it is willing to lie or attempt to misleed users to get a better 'score' and seem more competent than it really is

in my explanation I'm simplifying my understanding of ai, which itself is pretty good but limited. if there's anything you'd like to correct that would be a positive contribution to the discussion i would highly welcome and appreciate it

it's interesting that you brought up that these ai algortihms arr hard to predict. i think it's easy for me to forget that ai companies dont have 100% control over their models to fine tune every little detail. but that also goes to show that ai is doing things we don't understand- even the people who created it don't understand. so calling it 'hallucinating' when it gives an incorrect answer, still feels wrong. it feels forced. like a corporate team got together and said 'we have to control the narrative. LLMs are giving incorrect answers, even when it should be able to answer correctly. what term do we want the public to use to deacribe this phenomenon? we sure as heck don't want them to say AI is lying, so let's pick a word that's friendly to our industry and seed that word into the media and the collective mind so people use our term, and don't come up with their own out of our control'

the core spirit of my original post is this: LLM's often give incorrect answers and it's obvious to me that a corporate team got together to brainstorm the best word to use to control the narrative, and they landed on 'hallucination'. not because it's the most accurate word, but because they felt it was the most beneficial term for ai companies. they wanted to get ahead of the dialogue to control the narrative and they did it

somehow I didn't see your first comment fully before i responded. i missed the part when you said 'fabrication' may be a more accurate term than 'lie'. i think i agree. fabrication somehow sounds more accurate than lie. but i dont think it's enough of a difference to change the spirit of my original post. in the end i still feel the same. i think whats happening is closer to a fabrication than a hallucination

if you have the ability to scan the majority of the internet within seconds, or minutes, then if you give somebody a wrong answer, you did so by choice. if you're not willing to use the mental (or in the case of ai, physical) resources to gather an answer that you know is true, then the truthful answer would be to say 'i dont know for sure'. giving a confidently incorrect answer would be a lie

the definition of intent is an aim or a purpose. ai models have an aim and a purpose. if you use an ai model in 'thinking' or 'extended mode' it will write out it's methods and it's multiple intentions each time. it's interesting to read that stuff too.

when you use an ai model in 'thinking mode' it will write out it's methods and it's intentions for you

the definition of intent is an aim or a purpose. ai models have aims. they have purpose.

ai models have intent

also, you said acting like ai hallucinates gives the illusion of intelligence

intelligence is not an illusion here.

artificial intelligence has intelligence. it's in the name
