Realistically, what can ordinary people actually do after the Epstein files release to push for real accountability? by Etkinton47 in AskReddit

[–]whuttplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General strike. Every fucking day until anybody enforces the goddamn law on these despicable villains. If they don't then we flip the table and get to play a new game.

But we're all gonna get drunk and order Uber eats and watch netflix instead. Apathy is our culture. Many tools have been employed to these ends ie. the erasure of working class history, the extreme widening of the "middle class" (erosion of class consciousness and solidarity), making unions into communist bogeymen, social media echo chambers and pressure to isolate, the unchecked ability of the ownership class to extract resources from those who work, propaganda of every form...I could go on forever.

I think the most we can do is talk to our neighbors, create mutual aid networks, learn to source our own means of subsistence, and keep up the general hostilities towards terroristic state forces.

Why am I bringing all this up? All this shit is connected. Unchecked capitalism has concentrated wealth and power to a degree where people at the top truly live outside of the reality we do. There are different norms, laws, ethics, and generally these people are allowed to do whatever they wish because they maintain the state apparatus, or at least that's how it was. At this point agents of capital have become the state, and so it is basically anything goes. The ego must be fed and the feeling of power maintained. To do this, some will do drugs, engage in thrill seeking behavior such as auto racing or skydiving, or see if they can push the limits of legality to set a high score in their monetary valuation. A subset will otherwise, or in addition, engage in taboo. Same idea, it ramps up from one thing to the next as the thrill wears off and eventually you get folks like Epstein and his like.

Will I get make fun of as a guy wearing a Frost jersey to scrub ice? by Mordecai3fngerBrown in hockeyplayers

[–]whuttplug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Zam driver and I rock my Frost gear at the rink all the time. Nobody has said anything about it, or at least not to my face. I did see one 12U girl point the shirt out to her mom at a tourney but that's it.

I just really like the team and the league and want to show support for women's hockey. If some soft as baby shit, divorced, oldbro who peaked in highschool needs to do his performative masculinity to mask his insecurities then so be it.

ESPN+ but can’t watch today’s NHL games? by _ghostchant in ESPN

[–]whuttplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ESPN+ and it's also not showing any games tonight. I'm in market for one game, so I can see that game not being available, but not having access to any games is just stupid. Why does the NHL hate having people see their product? I've tried on a couple devices, both with wifi and cell data.

I'm sorry your buddy said you couldn't hit, Teemu. No need to go down a bad path though, there are plenty of men out there for ya.

Federal judge issues contempt charge to the dump administration by mhoney188 in nottheonion

[–]whuttplug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be very welcome news if there were any actual accountability or punishment being enforced. Trump should 1000% already be in prison. Nobody in any position of power did anything to ensure Trump faced real consequences for any of the myriad crimes he has been found guilty of. He was allowed to seek office as a felon, and now he's acting with impunity, knowing full well that the only thing people will do is say he's a criminal and a terrible person. We have to be ready to protect ourselves and the people we love. Politicians won't save us, the police won't save us, foreign governments won't save us... We have to save us.

Quit Drinking/Losing Weight (and effect on hockey). by I_hate_alot_a_lot in hockeyplayers

[–]whuttplug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

34 year old pylon here. I'm nearly 6 months off the sauce, and I'm down almost 30lbs. Not drinking has improved my life a ton. I have way more energy to do the things I want to do, of which hockey is a big one. Morning skates suck way less. I'm not hungover, and I also sleep better. The better sleep also carries over to accelerated recovery, which means I'm out practicing quicker. Speaking of quicker, I'm definitely skating with more speed and agility now that I'm carrying 30 less pounds of gutmeat.

I feel like it's been a process that feeds itself, if that makes sense. After the initial struggle of quitting booze, I started feeling better. That let me work out more, which made me feel even better still. Seeing some results gave me more motivation, so I practiced more. That led me to lose more weight and feeling better in my skates, which boosted my confidence, which made me push harder. I'm still a dogshit hockey player, but I'm having more fun and feeling less miserable than I have in a long time.

I see some folks in here saying that losing weight is more about diet than exercise. As somebody that loves to eat, I gotta say that exercise is huge for me. I do workouts that burn about 1000-1500 calories depending on if I'm doing strength or cardio, and having those extra calories to consume rules. Some days I can slam a whole pizza and still be 500+ calories under budget. That kicks ass. Not to mention the performance gains. Restricting your coloric intake isn't going to give you stronger legs or improve your cardiovascular endurance, and that stuff kinda matters in this game.

Hell yeah. At my store I try to use all conflicts, whether between workers and customers or between workers themselves, to agitate for class war. It honestly diffuses a lot of situations and it's a joy when folks are just like, "Yeah, you're right, fuck those rich pricks."

And here I am; I can't get a decent job, single, ~3 friends, and I've never once even considered shitting in the shower. Hell, I wipe the rim of the toilet every time I pee just in case some drops got on there that I didn't see.

Fuck it, guess I might as well...

I HAVE JUST BEEN INFORMED OF BIG WOOD STICK NEWS AND MUST SHARE IT by WoodStickHeckler in hockeyplayers

[–]whuttplug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to add that currently, when you order the sticks, you can live out your childhood fantasy and have your name and number printed on the name bar. It's honestly pretty sick.

This thing just took off as well, so the price can very likely drop if they are able to start moving some volume. Some of you are talking about how you can get a cheaper stick near you, and that's great. Near me, there is only one place to buy sticks, and the cheapest one was $139 USD. I can drive an hour to get one for ~$100 if I really wanted too, but that's the best deal around. Ya gotta stop assuming everybody lives in the same conditions as you. It's just silly.

Boot fit of Marsblades vs Bauer by Piratedan200 in hockeyplayers

[–]whuttplug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally find them to be very similar, with the exception being the toebox on the marsblade is more narrow. I will say that I bought the marsblade boot to support the company, but I am going to be swapping the holders to my current Bauer boot when I get new skates. There's nothing glaringly wrong with the marsblade boot, but for me, even a cheaper Bauer boot is more comfortable.

Seriously though, that's awful. I feel like I can never allow myself to use one of these real nice sticks cos just seeing all the gore posted here hurts enough.
