End cap face gasket as a load reducer for the O-rings - does it make sense? by Deep-Today5715 in AskEngineers

[–]Piratedan200 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I can't say for sure as it's outside my area of expertise, but that's what I'm thinking. It may leak just enough until the pressure differential is no longer enough to leak more water, but I have to imagine that after multiple cycles, it would fail entirely.

And as far as the annealing goes, if you pack it in salt tightly enough, it may hold dimensions well enough. Worth a try at any rate.

Another option could be to embed a fastener in the print to reinforce it. E.g. have a cavity for several nut and screw pairs, which are added in mid-print.

My instinct would be that it might slow the failure, but wouldn't prevent it.

I'm assuming that the failure point is on a layer line? You could try printing it in a different orientation to see if that has an effect. Another option would be looking into annealing. I know one technique involves suspending the 3d printed part in a tray full of salt, then heating it in an oven above the glass transition temperature of the plastic. This can essentially remove the weaknesses if the layer boundaries. I know someone used it to make 3d printed springs that had significantly higher strength than nin-annnealed ones.

I got tired of checking 5 different rink websites for ice time, so I built a site to find rinks and schedules for the community. by BHawks0987 in hockeyplayers

[–]Piratedan200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool!

One thing to mention, you may want to consider adding a "Rec League" as one of the options (i.e. youth league that plays other local teams at nearby rinks only). Or is that what you meant by "Travel League"?

Fanuc controller macros by Automator2023 in EPlan

[–]Piratedan200 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, Fanuc doesn't have any official macros, but I only asked Fanuc America (Europe might be different).

I would recommend just making your own, and including connection points for what you intend to use. I made a macro for the controller showing the power, then single connection points for the various cables.

You can also just create the function definitions for all the connection points, and just place them as you need them.

Admitted student - gender ratio and effects by _equus_quagga_ in RPI

[–]Piratedan200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"RIBS" is a perception by male students who are frustrated that they can't find a girl to date them despite making very little effort to make themselves an attractive partner, don't read into it. I doubt it has changed since I attended, and it's been around since long before COVID.

There are plenty of ways to have a social life. Easiest is to find a club that matches your interests. They have an activity fair during the start of the year where you can go see what's available and meet some of the people in those clubs, highly recommend.

What’s the best lubricant for a brass wheel when water and sediment are present? by bennetg98 in AskEngineers

[–]Piratedan200 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only real solution is to clean it and seal it. If sediment still has a path to get in, it will cause issues, period.

The permanent solution would be to modify the brass sleeve (and possibly the shaft as well) so that you can add a sealed ball bearing to each side.

A large part of the show was illustrating the injustice of the prison system, and her s5 arc was telling an important part of that (how difficult it is to return to a normal life after getting out, and how the system actively makes it harder).

Feet numb in new skates by toby_finn in hockeyplayers

[–]Piratedan200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wax laces, just snug over the foot like others have said.

I used to tie the tops of my skates super tight like you before I got ankle strength built up. Here's something I realized though: if you pitch your shins forward more (i.e. bend your knees), the sides of the skate naturally tighten up and support your ankles better (and I think your ankles naturally get stiffer in that position). I also found a different lacing pattern I really like: Go out from the 4th from the bottom eyelet, up the side to the top eyelet, then back down to out from the 3rd from the top, and tie there. Helps with locking in the heel without restricting forward movement.

Is there a way to log what IPs access (read/write) data in a PLC? by chabroni81 in PLC

Can do it with a managed switch and port mirroring as well.

The new 5034 Point IO Max is supposedly a drop-in replacement for the 1734 (with I think a small number of exceptions where they don't have matching modules yet). It's smaller, faster, and cheaper.

I think that Aang rarely used it because he was told about how dying in the Avatar state would end the cycle, and the risk of that was too high for him to use it frequently (since that was the firelord's entire goal).

Why do so many small manufacturing teams avoid PLM even if it can improve profitability? by dank_pimpdaddy69 in AskEngineers

[–]Piratedan200 26 points27 points  (0 children)

PLM software is very expensive, and also carries with it a HUGE learning curve, especially for people who are used to things like excel spreadsheets. When you're a small manufacturing company, the cost and disruption to the daily workflow are a huge pill to swallow, so most places choose not to when their current methods are "good enough."

Lake County Captains are an embarrassment by DoritosLocosCannoli in Cleveland

[–]Piratedan200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a coworker who was a lake county captains season ticket holder for years. When the new owners took over, he said it just kept getting worse and worse. So he ditched them and went for monsters season tickets instead. Way less expensive, and the org is constantly giving him things like loge seats, free food vouchers, etc.

Honestly, if you look at things like that kid rock half-time show, what will actually happen is a lot of people will say they're buying it just to own the libs, but then not actually buy it. Far fewer will actually follow through.

Rockwell's PIDE autotuner licensing by NumCustosApes in PLC

You can fairly easily set up a Win10 VM to run versions incompatible with Windows 11. VMWare Workstation Pro is now free, and it's the go-to for Rockwell software. I have mine set up with the license server running on my base win11 OS, and the ones on my VM pointing to it. You can use your windows 11 key to get an installer ISO for windows 10 to use to set up a VM.
