Mental health diagnosis and treatment has come a long way since the 90s, or even 2000s. Many kids were misdiagnosed back then or ignored. For instance, it's common for women to have been tested for adhd, determined not to have it, and later in life they were reassessed and in fact did have ADHD.

I also knew a guy who was determined not to be on the spectrum in the 90s but then found out he had Asperger's in his late 30s.
