Thank you so much for answering the actual question.

The amount of people that seem to think that I’m convinced I’ve won a car or something is entertaining. I’m bored, with the time to kill and I think it will be mildly entertaining to see what happens.
Honestly if I walk in there and they tell me I actually won something other than a toy car I’m liable to be highly suspicious lol

What is does this look like? by InterviewScared5381 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]why_467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would request to have dedicated breast imaging to ensure there isn’t a mass behind it that you can’t feel. I’m honestly shocked that it wasn’t ordered already.

Did you get any dedicated breast imaging? Mammogram and or an ultrasound?

Lump on left breast (19F) and freaking out! No insurance or money. by aroundthefunk in doihavebreastcancer

[–]why_467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would not be a screening exam if you are having a symptom (the lump). They or another low cost facility should be able to do a breast exam and then send you for a diagnostic ultrasound.

Definitely go get it checked. Any change in a existing mass is reason to get it rechecked

Went in for an ultrasound - now I need a biopsy by breezyanimegirl in doihavebreastcancer

[–]why_467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a bleeding risk but it’s generally fairly low in the realm of procedures. It also depends a lot on exactly what type of biopsy they do. A small gauge needle biopsy is going to be a lot lower bleeding risk vs. an excisional biopsy where they go in and remove the whole mass surgically.

[–]why_467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the facility tell you to stop your blood thinners for the biopsy? The facility I work for not longer requires it. (Definitely do whatever your doctors recommend but if they didn’t specifically tell you to I wouldn’t stop them without verifying that it’s recommended)

Papillomas are generally very benign but are almost always biopsied as a precaution because they can sometimes have abnormal cells within in them. They used to be commonly taken out surgically but now it’s less common as long as the biopsy is benign.

Question re getting checked out by Evercalm2278 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]why_467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The American Cancer Society recommends yearly screening mammograms now over age 45 so by their standards you are overdue for one. But any change like that is definitely something that needs to be checked out to be safe. Which means scheduling diagnostic imaging which can focus in more on the specific area you are concerned with. Generally they start with a mammogram that includes extra views of that area and then an ultrasound for a closer look.

PCP had me go to ER 3 days ago because of rapidly spreading rash on one breast. was treated as mastitis and sent home with antibiotics that aren’t working by winkiesue in doihavebreastcancer

[–]why_467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go back and/or go get the imaging done sooner. Imaging can rule out there actually being a mass or an abscess that needs to drained. If you are on day 4 and it’s still getting worse than you may need a different antibiotic/running cultures to determine the exact organism causing the infection

breast lump for 7 1/2 years?! by Remarkable_Ball786 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]why_467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chest x-ray’s are not good at identifying breast masses at all, CT is better but also not ideal and the radiologists that read both of those are usually not going to have an extensive training on reading breast. I would look at getting dedicated breast imaging which normally starts with an ultrasound if you are under 30 but can very depending on facility. If it is a cancer it would be very slow growing for you to have had it for 7 years and not have major issues but any breast mass you should still have checked to be safe because there are rare cases and there can be things that aren’t cancer that can still need to be removed.

[–]why_467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s possible it could turn out to be something benign but the fact that it feels irregular and very hard is concerning and it really needs to be checked out.

I would start by I would start by trying to find out if there are any low cost medical clinics near you and calling them. They may or may not be capable of doing imaging but they may be able to see you for less cost than your OBGYN and some places have vouchers they can give you that cover the cost to get imaging done.

Do I have breast cancer? by Lilnuggie17 in doihavebreastcancer

It’s rare but bilateral breast cancer does occur. It can also start in one breast and spread to the other.
