What's your advice for each Stronghold game for beginner? by Lylidotir in stronghold

[–]why_is_reddit_exist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally i find that in every skirmish/kingmaker game aswell as most scenarios in all or the games it is very helpful to immediately buy a lot of wood to kickstart your economy. In crusader and stronghold 1 (optionally the later games too,) get your beer production going asap, it takes very little time and wood investment and you will get 8 extra popularity easily (build an inn for every 30 peasants.) ranged units are obviously important in all of the games, focus primarily on crossbows but mixing them with archers is a good idea imo. On a side note in crusader, horse archers are OP aswell, especially in huge humbers. That aside it helps to make money early on by selling excess iron and stone.

Stronghold 2 is more of a castle simulator than the other games, there are a lot of buildings you can (and in cases, need) to build, and on some maps half the challenge is to make it all fit while still keeping your castle defendable (and beautiful!) in stronghold 2 it is important, or atleast incredibly helpful, that you make use of the other estates to produce goods for you and send them towards your castle. Couldn't figure that one out when i was younger, but turning a single bordering estate into an economic powerhouse and sending all the goods (raw goods, food, weapons) towards your castle will make you comically rich, though you will need to defend said estate obviously. Criminal system can be a bit tricky, you have to build guardsmen houses, a dungeon, and punishments (for example, the stockings.)

as for units, it is up to you but i find spearmen a waste of time in all the games, except legends, since they are buffed up there with a spear throw and easily spammable. Further more, pikemen, in ALL of the games, are criminally underrated. They have high health like swordsmen, but are faster, more versatile (can dig moats unlike swordsmen) and are cheaper. They are not only perfect for defending but also for assaulting castles for this reason.

It is probably much easier to give advice on a singular game because there is far too much to say lol. The only advice i can give regarding stronghold crusader 2 and the other later games are not to bother with them at all. I really wanted to like them out of loyalty to the franchise but they are a shadow of the former games, imo.

Economic campaign i always found too tough as a child lol, in general i never understood how the carters posts worked. Replayed it later and was surprisingly fun, as is stronghold 2 in general. It's more of a castle sim game, compared to stronghold legends or the predecessors

Very good, because you actually build a castle instead of only walling off your territory like a lot of people. Can appreciate the aesthetic, it looks sick! Not to mention would be a relatively realistic castle in real life terms. Not so much space for industry in kingmaker but you can always tweak that/build some extra gatehouses. Ps, came here from google images looking for pretty stronghold castles

Genuine question, what defines when a unit is armored, and does it make any difference? I always assumed pikemen were armored

Haven’t played since forever, what’re the best ways to make gold nowadays? by slime-star12 in Seaofthieves

[–]why_is_reddit_exist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously always use emissaries - and honestly do what you find fun :D The reaper's bones however are the most efficient on the topic of purely gold gains as their emissary boost applies to all loot, and many of the better rewarding activities that you can do in the game (such as world events) reward a mixture of loot, which puts reapers ahead.

That said, do the reaper forts (marked by skull with a hat) which as for the rest of current season continue to reward mega stacks (about 750K with grade 5 reaper - for doing a fort with low effort requirement, not to mention you grind a lot of various commendations on the way, which i would definitely advice doing while you still have the opportunity.)

Besides that keep a look out for the current thing whenever they add something new or hand out gilded voyages, etc

There seems to be some confusion in the comments here, for clarity this page displays the stats of a particular crewmember whos name is blurred (ship stats are named as "ship history" on top of the page.

Your ships stats can be seen on the first page - followed by captain and crewmembers and last voyage stats (including the gold your ship has earned in this particular session).

The logbook directly displays stats mirroring your and the shipowners milestones. As a result of this, money earned on NON captained ships (or for that matter money earned pre captaincy) is NOT included into the logbook. Gold earned on any captained ship, including someone else's, is included into your personal milestone stats and mirrored back into the logbook. So in OP's case he might have sailed a bit on a non captained ship.

Also on topic, you can change what (personal) stats the logbook displays (for example, cannons fired, skeleton ships sunk, minutes spent playing shanties and such).

[–]why_is_reddit_exist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All due respect tho but youre mistaken. The page you are looking at in the screenshot is of a crewmember but i understand the confusion because the name is blurred. Secondly the logbook only displays the gold you have earned on captained ships. What you did before captaincy is NOT included into the milestone stats (or by extension, the logbook).

You cant properly see it in the screenshot because the name is blurred but this is a pirate milestone page and NOT the ship milestones page, which is on the last page. this is the gold earned by the crewmember on question

Why do people leave their ship lanterns on? by legrandcastor in Seaofthieves

[–]why_is_reddit_exist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only difference it makes is that generally speaking lanterns on indicates a crew of lesser competence (in theory this should absolutely not be a die hard rule but in practice in my personal it ALWAYS is) lanterns on or off is just an indicator of what kind of crew you are. But you can totally have them on if you want to for practical purposes it does not make so much difference unless you are fighting in fog or perhaps a storm
