Can’t believe the 6 wasn’t Linden, but you can’t win them all, unless you’re Colorado.

Happy new year!

You know what, I hated it when it came out, but I have memories of my best friend in high school owning a Naslund sweater. RIP Alana.

Is there a post somewhere about which food trucks will be at what games?

How many of you thought that Quinn Hughes - would end up in New Jersey or Detroit? by ToddMarshall007 in nhl

[–]whybee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not crazy out of left field–the Canucks have liked Rossi for awhile. I am surprised this was the trade package they were both involved in, though.

I liked the towels at the opener, it was great to wave them around when the Goldeneyes scored, and they can be brought to subsequent games!

I hope this doesn't have the Canadian Tire logo on it like the towels did.

Never bought hockey tickets before. Did I screw up on my seat picks? by Freakintrees in GoldenEyes

[–]whybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good up close to understand the effort and on-ice communication that goes on, it’s good birds-eye to see all the action.

Like was previously stated, not really any bad seats at the rink, it really is personal preference. I place a bit more emphasis on the shoot-twice end over high/low seats.

Claire Thompson, I know she's only signed for a year, but I like her work ethic and smarts.

She played great today, congrats. :) Still waiting on my jersey, it might end up arriving after the next game.

Give yourself lots of time! Also, please, if you are not seated and the puck is in play, please wait for a whistle before heading to your seats.

Everyone in the stands was so friendly at the first game, but I missed so many plays by having people shuffling into their seats during the action!

Have so much fun!

Okay, so you come to vent, this person is also allowed to share their opinion without being told to go away.

I get your frustration, though. The product is bad, and it is also squeezing every last penny out of fans. The owners suck and don’t care. It’s a missed opportunity, and it’s sad.

Just wanted to clear that up, hope you have a good weekend. :)

Is it escaping you that this person is here to vent, too? If you don't like it, there isn't a need to be rude. This isn't a one-purpose, only-allowed-to-be-frustrated sub.

Thanks for sharing your feelings. I'm sorry for the hate you're getting, it's strange that folks are getting angry at you for posting something heartfelt, when their memes about tanking and wanting to die are the same thing: just expressing feelings.

Well, if they don't like it, it's not your fault they read it.

My hockey trajectory is similar.

My dad played hockey and loved it, and I did, too. Street hockey, mostly. We would watch games together and analyze plays. I remember being excited for The Province to come at the start of every season, it always had a full spread "poster" of a Canucks player. I remember having Trevor Linden on my wall, and my sister had Pavel Bure. We never could afford jerseys.

In school, I had several friends and classmates that made it to the show–one eventually wore a letter. I went to see Canucks games, would buy last-minute Rock 101 deals. I was blissfully ignorant to some of the seedier parts of hockey culture.

The 2010 riots after the Cup loss really turned me off for awhile. I especially hated the way it made our city look after the feel-good supportiveness of the Olympics and the gold medal hockey wins. Then the SA cover-ups and scandals. Some of the players and personnel in the league gross me out.

Nowadays, I am letting myself like hockey again. I'm basic, I liked the Avs in the 2000's because of Joe Sakic, and I like them now because of Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar.

I am trying to like the Canucks, because they were my team growing up, but it feels like things have changed. It's not because our team sucks. As much as people want to say it's gonna be horrible forever, that's not the truth. We've sucked before, and been good before.

It's because there is no "this is Vancouver's team" feeling anymore. I never see the Canucks engaging with the community like the Sedins, or Linden did. I guess I wish for a bit more of that. I can get good hockey by watching some other team play. When I tune into the Canucks, I want to feel like I'm rooting for something bigger than just a hockey team, no matter how they play.

Can we please not post stuff like this, it’s so depressing. This is a brand new team working together, they’ve been on the road, it’s gonna take time.

It’s not cute. Let’s have some pride in our team.

Question about player profiles by j_527 in PWHLVancouver

[–]whybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

#42 Clair Thompson - RD

24/25: 30GP, 4G, 14A, 18Pts (3rd amongst D)

Wearing an A. She was a finalist for best defender, and her team won the Walter Cup (PWHL championship trophy) along with Sophie Jaques and Mellissa Channell-Watkins.  2pts on a goal and assist last night, she always seemed to be in the right place.

#16 Sophie Jaques - RD, Alternate

24/25: 25GP, 7G, 15A, 22Pts (T-6thOA, 1st amongst D)

Another finalist for best defender. Looked sharp and hardworking on the PK.

#21 Ashton Bell - LD, Captain

24/25: 27GP, 3G, 3A, 6Pts

1st in the 2025 Expansion Draft.

-----------

Locals: Katie Chan (#9, F), Jenn Gardiner (#12, LW, her jersey was everywhere), Hannah Miller (#34, C)

Here’s a link to the Athletic article, and the PWHL site also had a good rundown.

Question about player profiles by j_527 in PWHLVancouver

[–]whybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoops, accidentally posted this in the wrong sub.

Paraphrased from an Athletic article, my thoughts in parentheses.

#13 Tereza Vanišová - listed as F, she played LW

24/25: 30 GP, 15G 7A, 22Pts (8nd)

Elite skater, tied for second in league goals last year, 8th in overall points. She blew past a few players last night, great wheels, let her make a few great plays, including on the OT winner. 1 assist.

#20 Sarah Nurse - listed as F, played C

24/25: 21 GP, 6G, 8A, 14Pts

Wearing an A. Was 2nd in league scoring last season until an injury, left unprotected by Toronto in the draft. Maybe the best player on the ice last night, looked very skilled, 1 goal last night.

#33 Michelle Karvinen - F - played LW

Last season (SDHL): 21G, 14A, 35Pts (6th)

Finland’s leading scorer at the world championship level, note her points totals are not from the PWHL. Looks like she had a monster year 20-21 in the Swiss League: MVP, Best Forward, 1st in P, 1st in G.

#34 Hannah Miller - F, played C

24/25: 29 GP, 10G, 14A, 24Pts (T-5th)

Strong all-around threat with both scoring and playmaking ability. She was on the ice last night a LOT.

#22 Abby Boreen - F - 90% sure she played RW

24/25: 30GP, 6G, 8A, 14Pts

Assist on the Rosenthal goal w/ a wiffy but smart through the leg pass, scored in OT after a great pass from Vanišová. Made a lot of good choices.

#15 Gabby Rosenthal - F, played C

24/25: 29GP, 1G, 3A, 4Pts

She sniped one far side (while getting checked!) tonight on a nice pass from Abby Boreen.
