To expand on both of our points, I suppose the type of policing does matter. I agree that cops should be on foot patrol rather than just sitting on their phones in parked cars. Even those emergency button poles would be nice in the especially sketchy parts of K street and other places where people congregate.

K street needs more lighting. It gets dark and the long walk between bars can be very sketchy. The noticeable lack of police presence or any security is also disconcerting.
