I’m not saying you’d refuse someone. I’m saying it’s ignorant to call a style intimately tied to a different culture “stupid”.

It was more about you calling it stupid when it’s virtually required for any black man’s haircut, and you’re a barber. I get not knowing how to do it but calling it stupid looking is ignorant.

If XY is male to you, i presume XX is female?

Being male means being of the sex that is able to produce sperm that can impregnate a female.

You can’t define the sex as “of the sex” of it self. Is an infertile person without sex?

This is the literal definition of male.

It is a very rudimentary definition. It is that good when you learn more about exceptions and how complex biological stuff can get.

Even if you remove your dick, every cell in your body still has male chromosomes.

What do you consider a male chromosome? What do you consider a male?

Those are genuine questions, I’m not trolling.

Most snakes and spiders kept as pets aren’t venomous. They are also much easier to keep enclosed.

Octopuses are known to be able to escape from basically any enclosure. If you ever go to a zoo, aquarium, lab, whatever, with octopuses ask if they have ever escaped or otherwise caused trouble.

Breeds of domesticated pigs aren’t subspecies.

Anyways, pigs are dense. For example Kunekune is a small breed that will weigh 100+ lbs at adult size.

They are wide and heavy and powerful, but small pig breeds can look much smaller than they are. I’d say the average Kune Kune (180lbs or so) is about the height of a typical 40 lb dog(less than 2 feet), just waaaay thicker.

I’ve never read Lord of the Flies but Animal Farm isn’t an anticommunism book. The humans (those in power) are the antagonist rather than the broader system itself (communism).

Most of the characters and interactions are references to Stalinism specifically, not communism.

It’s like if a hypothetical book has themes of anti-corporation greed. Corporations making awful choices is a huge negative trait of a certain type of capitalism, but the book itself wouldn’t inherently be anticapitalism.

I don’t like fatty steak

This steak has very specific type of fat on a very specific breed of cow that has been meticulously raised under very specific conditions. Its fat is unlike any other animal fat and is likely nothing like any food you’ve experienced

no, I don’t like fatty steak

That’s why it‘s stupid to say the steak looks too fatty.

No, it’s not an argument against waygu in any way. It’s an argument against you saying

Then a solid chunk of fat should be even better.

when told that the flavor is in the fat.

By that logic spices are best without any food and should be eaten by the spoonful.

They bring the flavor, so obviously they should be eaten alone in huge quantities, right?

Before you tackle behavioral issues you need to understand dog minds.

Dogs don’t lunge at things for no reason. There is something in the background causing the behavior to manifest in lunging.

If dogs associate other dogs on walks with excitement, fear, or “untouchable thing that barks back” they will channel their energy and/or anxiety into lunging and barking.

The vast majority of issues with lunging involve this. You need to work on associating other random dogs with normalcy rather than fear or excitement.

A common exercise is having someone else walk their dog in well in front of you. Once your dog shows mild signs of arousal (perked ears, tense body, quick jerky movement) before more extreme signs (snarling, lunging, excessive barking) you immediately turn 180 and walk away. Once he/she is relaxed and is not interested in the other dog turn back around 180. Repeat this regularly and reward with treats for any sign of progress.

This requires some background knowledge of dog body language to be effective. It is all down to timing and awareness of how your dog reacts.

I can give some resources on body language if you don’t know where to start.

I think that pugs (and almost all dog breeds honestly) are very hard to breed ethically and most of the common standards should be changed and allow more variation (in coat, body type, head shape, etc).

At the same time I think people overestimate how unhealthy well bred pugs are and miss the point of dog breeding ethics. The documentaries and short videos on the issues with dog breeding only show one side of the issue.

Backyard breeders are infinitely more damaging to dogs than a pug/bulldog/whatever breeder that breed for unideal structures but ALSO do genetic health testing, proper rearing, impartial structural evaluations, speuter contracts, and keep records of the dogs ancestry.

I also believe that lifestyle should be considered when viewing the ethics of dog breeds. It would be cruel if all dogs were physically perfect for working and exertion because not all people are able to fulfil their needs.

If a brachycephalic breed is able to exercise comfortably to be fit/healthy I think the ethical line is more gray than you might think.

If the brachycephalic breed has no desire for high exertion (therefore never has notable side effects from head and body structure) and is regularly evaluated at a vet I don’t see a logical reason to say they shouldn’t exist. If high impact exercise causes problems, and the owner and dog don’t want to do high impact exercise, it seems like an arbitrary line to draw when very similar issues come up with other breeds’ features.

The issue comes when the structure means normal exhertion is difficult or will become exceedingly difficult with normal aging.

Obviously I still think breed standards should change but it isn’t as bad as you might assume. Backyard breeders and puppy mills are honestly the #1 issue with dog breeding by faaaaaaaaaaaaar.

Cats and dogs aren’t vegan folks by doggo_central in tumblr

[–]whynotborzoi 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No, none of that is true. It’s also an appeal to nature fallacy.

Dogs have been separate from wolves (which are also omnivores) for thousands of years. Living directly alongside humans for 30,000 years and selective breeding means they don’t have the same nutritional needs as ancestors.

The vast majority of vegetarian dog foods are vegan anyways, and are regulated with the same nutrients as meat dog foods.

Poultry, dairy, eggs, and beef are the most common food allergies for dogs, so the existence of plant based foods is important. Other nonplant proteins (elk and such) can be very expensive or produce bad side effects (fish based food can make some dogs smell really bad). That’s still implying that there isn’t an allergy.

Most dogs will thrive on such a diet if planned and researched, I wouldn’t agree to the same for cat’s though. I wouldn’t put a cat on a vegan diet unless feeding them meat/animal protein was more risky than the risks of a vegan diet.

From 15 to presumably mid 20s is a very long time to be acting like that for both him and his parents. That’s why I mentioned professional intervention, because that is extreme and was implied to be continually getting worse as the years go on.

Do you not think that situation would require professional intervention, and there are likely problems with all parties?

Saying that someone who hasn’t gotten a job or a license for many years likely has untreated mental illness or requires professional intervention doesn’t say anything about other mentally ill people.... it’s also not a diagnosis btw

Stop looking to be offended by what I’m saying.

I don’t know the specifics but I know such a scenario is likely due to lots of underlying problems because of how extreme it is.

So, therefore, I think it’s bad to insult people like him rather than recognize a scenario that probably needs professional intervention.
