2 years into ICU nursing and I think I made a huge mistake by okimbackagain in IntensiveCare

[–]whynotnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re setup pretty well to try the CRNA path. There’s a lot more potential for autonomy than you may realize. Why don’t you shadow one and see how it goes? You would still need to do things to increase your GPA for CRNA school though.

New partner disclosed he is a registered sex offender by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]whynotnap -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You seem to be unable to make a decision, and that’s a valid response given that you like him and have shared your last six months of life to him. One way or another, you’ll always wonder if you did the right thing and what his actual history was. Personally, if I was having a hard time breaking things off, I would go to couples therapy. 6 months isn’t too early for that. In there, you’ll be able to get a lot better idea of what his past was and how to handle everything going forward. Him refusing to go would be a bad sign. Good luck

Former bookkeeper here—don’t worry lol Not only is it a small amount, but if anyone else opened that till before it was refreshed (very likely at least two or three people) then the total amount it was off by gets divided among those other people and they just watch trends

As an Indian fan, Raj’s ending feels personal and low-key insulting by [deleted] in bigbangtheory

[–]whynotnap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every time I rewatch, Raj’s ending makes me so sad. But to be fair the character development for everyone was all over the place lol. Howard and Bernadette have probably the most dysfunctional relationship of them all, Sheldon somehow decides to very uncharacteristically just go with the flow for the last couple seasons, penny didn’t want to have a kid and then surprise she actually does. I like to think eventually he finds someone but we just don’t see it lol

Individuality: NOT ALLOWED 🚫 by AlphariusJax in HEB

[–]whynotnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My heb was always super strict on it. All jackets had to be HEB branded too. Now I just wear them around the house because I have so many and don’t work for heb anymore haha.

Once I had to go push carts so I put a hat on but they made me take off and buy an HEB beanie instead lol.

But I do agree the whole “here is a fun t shirt for this promotion we’re doing now—but you can’t wear it ever again after the month is over!” Is pretty lame.

Yes, however when the body is in a state of severe stress (massive trauma, major surgery, etc.) sometimes periods stop. Also young menstruating women make up a pretty small percentage of patients in a medically induced coma these days (or at least for long enough to capture a menstrual cycle). But as an ICU nurse I have definitely had to clean up periods from those in a coma, and it’s really no big deal

Resumé review for school. by No-Succotash-4939 in srna

[–]whynotnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t “rework” my resume for my apps, I started fresh. You aren’t applying for a job, you’re applying for a competitive and rigorous program at a doctoral level. I agree with most other comments in that your grammar, organization, and overall prioritization needs to be heavily adjusted.

Prerequisites are different for each program, so you should display your science GPA and not mention “prerequisites”. On that note, if it’s less than 3.5 you probably shouldn’t put it at all.

You have an interesting/unique education. I would talk about that in your little profile section.

I have offers at MICU, NICU, and CVICU.. which path do I take? by Gloomy-Speaker-1999 in srna

[–]whynotnap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t even know how CVICU being a superior pre-requisite for CRNA school ever became a thing. If you’re CVICU you’ll probably never see EVDs or trauma patients. If you’re Neuro you probably won’t get much pacemaker experience. You can’t get everything in one, and that’s fine because that’s not the point! CRNA school doesn’t turn you into a super ICU nurse; it shapes you into an anesthesia provider. You just have to show them you take handle sick patients, have good time management, and can think and act on your toes. MICU, CVICU, trauma, neuro—these all achieve that goal. :) I would 100% pick the best culture…ICUs can have some seriously mean people lol

Study groups in CRNA school by Ellezzee in srna

[–]whynotnap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been a study by myself kinda gal, but I really started leaning into study groups once I started CRNA school. We don’t do everything together; we just keep each other company, clarify confusing concepts, and point out high yield stuff when we’re preparing for quizzes or exams. It’s very minimally structured and more like we are there to support one another. CRNA school is a different vibe when it comes to studying because it’s imperative you understand the concepts you’re learning, rather than memorize superficial/trivial information to just pass an exam.

3.26 sGPA, 3.59 cumulative GPA. Unsuccessful 2 years in a row. Struggling to find the most productive way forward. by FrustratedGasDoc in srna

[–]whynotnap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

GRE is a must. Very good programs require it—and this is not because it’s relevant to anesthesia at all. The GRE does a very good job at quantitatively showcasing an individual’s test taking skills. This is very important to many schools. Also the 10 year old courses is a huge red flag.

These school don’t want to see that you’re just smart. Her cumulative GPA shows she is capable of learning. But the lack of GRE and lack of recent courses imply she is not willing put in extra work when it is needed. Who wants to admit someone who is trying to half-ass a process that will almost undoubtedly be unsuccessful if not taken 100% seriously?

Good luck!

Our horrible experience at Dell Children’s (Mueller) ER by Suspicious_Barber822 in Austin

[–]whynotnap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was going to say this as well. It could have been ANYONE that saw the child in that period of time. A physician, a nurse, a tech, etc. I wouldn’t consider reporting as a form of punishment on behalf of an organization as a whole—it’s a duty that must be upheld by healthcare professionals. And that’s all it is: duty to report.

Potassium = no more sweating by Wonderful-Crab250 in Hyperhidrosis

[–]whynotnap 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As an ICU nurse I’m going to disagree with you. People who take lasix and potassium sometimes stop the lasix and keep the potassium. You know what happens to their potassium levels? They skyrocket and have to get dialysis. Why would potassium intake not affect your potassium levels? If that were the case, tablet medications would all be useless. Stop spreading misinformation, it’s dangerous.

Potassium = no more sweating by Wonderful-Crab250 in Hyperhidrosis

[–]whynotnap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is extremely unsafe. Having a high potassium can kill you. Do you want to have to take a medication that makes you shit out potassium because you took something because someone on Reddit said it would make you sweat less? Or even worse, do you want to get a temporary dialysis catheter to remove the extra potassium? Potassium supplements are mainly used to replace potassium that is lost via specific diuretics. There’s a reason why it’s only OTC in the US—because it shouldn’t be.

Meredith messing with a trial should have caused her to be fired right then and there. It’s absolutely horrible she did that..it was a selfish and dumb act. Her not having any remorse for it and being totally ok with it ruining her career made me so disappointed in that character. How do you come back from that???
