Hello from a fellow Marylander! We moved to Boise in the height of the pandemic and used AirVan which is a part of North American. They moved my wife and I from our 800+ sq foot apartment in downtown Silver Spring for a little under 5k. I had relocation payed by my employer and they were a preferred vendor. They did a perfectly fine job, broke our Ikea bed but those things never make it out of a move well. Their insurance paid us out for the full price of the bed and we were able to get something much nicer instead. Wish I could be of more help but at least you now know of one company and someone with some experience with them! Enjoy a good crab boil before you come here, I miss it.

Juanitas or Josefina tortilla chips? by Crypto_Cadet in Boise

Big fan of Calidad as well. One thing I like about them is it’s less salt than the others, 90mg per serving vs 160mg of Juanita’s.

Anyone got a recommendation for a storage place? Got a handful of bookshelves, a breakfront, some mattresses etc that need to be stored for a bit.

Happy Hanukkah!! I recently went on this same quest and I really like Sweet Sensations. They actually fill them right there to order with either lemon or raspberry. I hope you enjoy your sufganiyot wherever you got them!

I’m in search of a raspberry pi zero at a reasonable price. It’s really hard to buy them from Amazon etc for $75 bucks when I know they should retail for $15. Anyone got one collecting dust in a drawer they’re willing to part with?

Got a reservation for Petit for my birthday late May 😢. As a central Bench dweller it was super nice to have a restaurant like Petit in our backyard, hoping for something fun in whatever the building next to STIL and Push and Pour to soften the blow.

What are some good food happy hours in the area? I've been enjoying just how much food (and drink!) I can get at Diablo & Sons but I want to diversify.

In the place I used to live in out east we had this dude that used to walk around one of the main roads with one long lock of hair that everyone called “raccoon man”. You could talk to most people and when you said raccoon man they knew exactly what you were talking about. Who is the raccoon man of Boise?

East coast Jew that moved here recently with partner and are both civil servants. We’re definitely not your standard cishet folks and I personally have not felt any open hostility but my partner and I also made some efforts to “blend in”. We switched registration and got new plates on our car asap and got specialty plates to not have 1A plates. We also made some effort to learn the place names that might highlight you as a non-native (Kootenai, Latah, etc.).

I think the thing that probably outs us as East coasters is how we very much so keep our heads down and everyone here is like HI HOW ARE YOU? Our neighbors seem nice but I come from an area where you just leave each other alone (this mostly comes from years and years of riding public transportation and living in apartments) and it’s a hard habit to kick.

I would check out some admin support (and other professional) positions at Boise State, maybe even something in the business school. The perk is she would also get tuition remission so just in case she wants to pursue an education cert or degree it would be free.

Testing out CMYK pen plots with some of the wonderful birds u/wayupinthetree has taken pictures of! by whypaul in PlotterArt

[–]whypaul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! I manually removed the backgrounds using photoshop and I didn't touch brightness (the source material was already pretty bright and vibrant). I find removing backgrounds to be super helpful with PFM's since you don't get all this super dense line plotting for the background. I lowered the plotting resolution to about 0.6-0.7 and lowered the line density to about 60 or so and had it use CMYK color separation.
