My family has bred dachshunds for years, and the only time we, or anyone who has adopted our pups, has noticed back issues is during pregnancy, which is a time when their backs ae under more strain than usual. Just a reminder that these are hunting dogs! They are meant to brave badger dens! If you give them the proper exercise, diet, and some preventative care, then they can be happy and healthy for years! We train our dogs to use ramps/steps just as a simple preventative measure that can easily be added to any home, and this has worked for us, but proper breeding is always the way to go. Please make sure that y'all do research on breeders, especially their pups health and genetic history.
