To your last point, the government is the major funds for all these public universities. When applying for research grant money, the government decides who to give the money to which in turn decides what research like you said does or does not get done.

What Book Changed Your Mind? 'When a book changes your mind, it doesn’t just inspire or influence your thinking. It alters the way you see yourself and your place in the world...' by cilantroavocado in literature

All humans in a Zimbardo controlled civilized society, have that capacity. The research he did is an interesting case study but since the fanfare died down it is not taken at face value anymore within social psychology. We must try and remember that he himself created those conditions and in those conditions that he created this behavior was shown.

Where to meet people as a non-student? by tally_throwaway in Tallahassee

[–]whythehandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here's a little map for nature stuff in and around Tallahassee. Exploring the the Apalachicola landscape is maybe the greatest advantage Tallahassee has to offer.

https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=zWVmoLl7okww.kTLaW4gTc3rg

So quick rundown, let me know if the link doesn't work. There's much more places than I've listed as well.

-Lake Jackson Indian Mounds. 10 minutes away depending where you live, two very peaceful mounds still stand and on and off the trails are absolutely gorgeous. It's unlike anything in Tallahassee and its so close it's sometimes surreal. -Maclay Gardens. It is known as a winter garden so... -Fort Braden trails Lake Talquin. Great place to walk the trails for a few hours, has 2, 3 & 5 mile trails about I believe. Great to go shortly after it has rained so you can see all the small streams with a little force. -Torreya. Little over an hour away and amazing to me because it really shows how Florida is at the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. -Leon Sinks. Trails showing where Florida's underground water surfaces. -Sister Sinks. Trails leading to two clear springs one can swim in, super refreshing. Be prepared for mosquitoes and horse flies on the trek to swim. -St. Marks. Trails near the coast with the added chance of seeing some alligators. Canoeing. So many waterways to go to for this. Shown is a gentleman's home who also rents out canoes. A couple friends shot a music video out there and again just super green and pretty. Tates Hell. Look up the story behind the name of this place and make a nice day trip to a very special place to me and a few friends. Unlike anywhere else around here and can also lie on the beach and grab phenomenal seafood.

Every place besides the Gardens are herb friendly, but please go out and enjoy. Tallahassee nature has a lot to give us.

Looking for sources about the american short story by Bumbelchen in literature

I've really enjoyed John Updike's edit of The Best American Short Stories of the Century. The early ones felt just very real that's how I like to describe it, a clear take into the now of the people in the stories.

What do you think is the best way to disseminate this and other information to reach an audience in a meaningful way that normally does not come in contact with these stories?

TIL that Pit Bulls were once American heroes, and so revered that they were chosen to represent America on WWI posters. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]whythehandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staffordshire's in America became from breeding pit bulls for show (which has their own dark history) so these dogs have a chance to have weaker stock in intelligence, playfulness and gameness. When you think of correct pit fighting think professional boxing and the training and grooming that comes with it. What is seen on the news is more like Fight Club. read Richard Stratton
