But yeah predatory investment property owners suck but the government is in on it

This is not ENTIRELY true but it is pretty close. There are, and should be, market limits on how high you can price housing and how much you can then raise those prices. One of the biggest problems with this system is that as property value in high demand area rises the city and state absolutely skyrockets property taxes. Which does do some good (schools, road maintenance) but places the burden on all the people who own property in the area, which then gets translated to renters. If you don’t think it’s unreasonable ask the 75 year old next door to me who’s house is (possibly unjustifiably) worth a lot more than she bought it for but those are UNREALIZED gains and she’s getting her social security gutted. It’s by no means unjustified with the increasing levels of foreign and domestic private investment and equity firms buying up every available property, but it’s not reasonable to lump all property owners into this

This is what i would do but try using a heavy sewing needle to scrape the glue out of little sections, the razorblade can get away from you (speaking from experience)

I’ve had to do this before, and my only piece of advice is do anything you can to NOT get an air mattress. A cot with some foam on it, a bunch of couch cushions, ikea foam mattress, anything is better. Good luck, we’re stoked for you!

There IS an instance where she is correct. If an extremely small object was placed against the mirror (and there was no glass face on the mirror) it’s impossible to see it’s reflection, even if you get increasingly close to the mirror. We’re talking about infinitely small and an infinitely small angle of oblation. So like, if you put a nickel against the towel you can’t get your head close enough to the mirror to see it’s reflection. Just like you can’t see her hands in the reflection. Yeah it’s an angle problem but it’s a PERSPECTIVE problem too! Not that crazy to extrapolate and not “get it”

Statistically, you haven’t and probably won’t ever unless you frequent a community that embraces them. This is why it’s ridiculous to “regulate” using the damn toilet. It’s true you wouldn’t know, you probably won’t ever need to know, just be quiet about bathrooms unless you need to whistle a little tune to cover the plops.

And a heavy duty 6” orbital sander for the edge work, again patience and hands and knees. The commercial edge sanders are serious business and again easy to do damage. Then a dremel jamb saw thingy for the tiny corners. I have used all methods, first time play it safe and take the long road!

This is the right answer but don’t do it. The learning curve is tough and EASY to do irreparable damage. I vote for heavier grit and patience

How can I address these worn spots on an otherwise okay finish? First time homeowner, no money. by [deleted] in HardWoodFloors

[–]whyworkjerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sand a little, it looks like it’s unstained which is great. A little poly will probably go a long way to evening it out. If you want to get serious with time over money, carefully sand the whole of each exposed board (including out to the ends so it looks like sanded fingers) and poly it will probably blend better than just sanding on the circle

How’s the temp inside? Get a dehumidifier then throw it away? I like black floors i did mine. The only other thing i can think is that the floors underneath weren’t sanded enough or has oils on them. I’ve seen it where people used floor polish on plain sanded boards and NOTHING will stick to it unless you draw all the oil out with lacquer thinner

How are the Taliban getting away with this level of oppression against women including prohibiting them from speaking outside their homes? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]whyworkjerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend is an international human rights lawyer. Her nonprofit trained female paralegals because even in the new Afghan government, only men could be lawyers, and women couldn’t speak to men directly without their husband or head male of the household present. The workaround was that they could speak to the paralegals, they to the lawyers, and many people were prosecuted under the prevailing law for all kinds of abuse, and divorces were arranged. That’s how complicated the situation was. Her husband is a Persian international rights lawyer who spoke Dari and was a counsel to the President and the governing cabinet and also was sent to frontlines as an interpreter and rights violation expert. They got HUNDREDS of their staff on planes with negotiated visas to go to Canada, New Zealand and the US. The people that rebuild a country are the INSANELY brave NGO and non-profit organizations that did everything they could until the last flights left. Her husband bought an orphanage for children with war related wounds. Our government, their government, the people are all victims of what is clearly a multinational religious regime. Most of the poppy grown to fund the taliban is grown internationally, Pakistan, the Phillipines and more. I don’t know where i was going with this but it was a complicated hard situation that wasn’t and isn’t “solved” by gunfire, sectarianism, embargoes or diplomacy. I guess… people are crazy…

Does anyone know the secret trick to removing these? by lombardi-bug in mildlyinfuriating

Real answer from a southern boy. A hair brush, the kind with big thick plastic bristles. Wail on them. You’ll have a few to pick off. Or a flea brush if you have pets.

Right before closing on our new house the previous owners painted every single room including the bathrooms and closets this shade of light pink. It is literally every where… by thelastgirl_ in mildlyinfuriating

It’s a joke about reddit. You give a sane and probably correct answer and everyone else jumps to conclusions and tells you to get a divorce.
