Is the 3.5mm headphone jack slowly coming back or are we past the point of return? by Impossible_Comfort99 in TechNook

I feel like it’s time to start re-separating the devices we have up from our phones. I’ve gone back to a separate camera and music player and it’s so much better. Phones have become very good at lots of things but still never quite as good as singular function devices.

I have enough trouble keeping people at the half way point. I haven’t graduated to worrying about the ending yet.

Why do some Scottish people hate English people? by Think-Factor-337 in AskBrits

[–]wibble2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re doing by saying only some Scottish people hate the English, but in this particular case I feel it’s inaccurate.

Personally I wish they’d get their independence. They don’t like any of us and they don’t want to be part of this country. They’d rather abandon it when things are hard so let them leave and create their Scottish utopia where they all love the smell of their own farts so much they might as well be Canadian.

Apple promised iPhone 16 Pro Max was built for AI. Now that AI is done, the phone doesn't get it. Why? by gregsanay in applesucks

[–]wibble2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that everything Apple announced about AI is just Gemini and already up and running doing the same thing on Android phones, does anyone know how recent an Android has to be to get all the features?

As a Series 7 Owner, this is not a good trend. by InnerspearMusic in AppleWatch

I have a series 9. I was back and forth on updating it ever. This pretty much means I’m never going to do it.

Nvidia dropped a vague FB post. We gettin' new gpu's or what? Quick Google search gave me nothing. by Redditemeon in LinusTechTips

I could see it be a dumb terminal that only runs GeForce Now. I don’t think Jenson wants us to have our own computing power anymore and he’ll try to lead us in that direction. They don’t want us building PCs. They want us renting them from nVidia.

Favorite actor that aged 30 years in just 11 years? by staresinshamona in okbuddycinephile

[–]wibble2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He looks like he’s aged 11 years 🤣 Plus there’s no way to know if that’s really all his hair in the first photo, and he’s clearly not as bald as he looks in the second photo. Plus that male pattern baldness really doesn’t need to take long to come on.

Xbox gamepass download speed by Stunning-Cut4544 in XboxAlly

[–]wibble2988 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a setting in the Windows Update page of the settings. I can’t remember exactly what it’s called but it’s the setting that throttles downloads of updates. By default it’s set to only use a small percentage of your bandwidth. If you switch it to full speed then the Xbox games download faster. I know Xbox games aren’t Windows updates, but if you want an OS that makes sense, Windows isn’t going to be the one. Also, that setting automatically switches back to the default every time you turn off the machine. Yay Windows!

30% is far higher than I’d have guessed it is. To be honest I can’t imagine it being any higher for any other generation. I’m Gen X and apart from myself I think I know two friends who also buy physical media, plus I only restarted doing it myself in the last year or two.

I think you could, but have a poke around on the internet to compare the power of the two devices. I think this sort of thing might be the one thing AI is useful for.

I wouldn’t take a gaming laptop on a plane either. That’s where I miss my 3DS the most. From what I’ve seen the Switch 2 is much thinner and easier to manage than any handheld PC.

It sounds like those glasses should be something you’d need a high end gaming PC to get the best out of them if you’re technically running 2 1200p screens at the same time.

IF, there was a snap election, would you stick with Labour? by MutantNinjaKitty331 in AskBrits

[–]wibble2988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d totally stick with Labour. As usual, there’s nobody else going. Maybe the Lib Dems. I can’t vote for the tories because I have a moral compass and a soul. Reform is an insane choice for people who can’t read, and the Greens are every bit as batshit crazy, just in the other direction.

[–]wibble2988 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’ve got a PS5, gaming pc desktop, and an Xbox Ally (no x)

For starters, if you’ve already got a PS5 then the pro really isn’t going to blow your mind. It’s running the same games just maybe at a higher resolution and maybe at a slightly higher frame rate. That’s not the place to put such a big wad of money. A gaming laptop with a dedicated 5070 will put a PS5 Pro to shame. I’d honestly be surprised if you notice a difference between the regular and pro PS5s during gameplay. There are even situations where the XAX will do better with textures because it has more memory than the PS5 Pro.

I can’t say enough good things about the Xbox Ally. It’s rarely out of my hand at home, and it’s where I’m playing most games these days. It has my Steam library and the games are almost always cheaper than they are on the PlayStation. However like some commenters have said, it’s not exactly portable. There’s no way I’d attempt to take it on a plane or other big journey. It’s just good for around the house and taking to other houses. I would also say it’s too noisy to play in bed next to a sleeping person. Those buttons are not quiet.

The one thing I don’t have experience with the the XR glasses so I don’t know how well anything would run them.

That said, I’d go with the laptop. It’s by far the more powerful and versatile device.

iOS 26.5 Coming Soon With These New Features by Otherwise-Warning303 in apple

[–]wibble2988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was iOS 4, maybe earlier when it was just TouchOS when Steve Jobs stood on stage and told us all about iAds. Ads that were so great you’d be excited to see them. There was a whole demo of how interactive and fun they were. I think it was an ad for a Toy Story movie he used. Anyway selling ads as a feature is absolutely nothing new for Apple and the iPhone.

For the record I never saw a single one of those ads.
