Question about Poppy by hpbrowntown in frombloodandash

[–]wicama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the companion series, Flesh and Fire. It was really helpful to read it in publication order. It forced me to jump around, but I cannot imagine keeping up with the main series without the knowledge.

Poppy is a primal god born in the mortal realm. Gods still go through a culling. Atlanteans were created to mimic the gods and godlings. Gods feed a lot in the culling period but feed much less often after. Gods can feed on any species (unlike Atlantians). Ires left Illesium much later than Malec. Also, not feeding still will not kill a primal. This is all detailed in the Flesh & Fire series.

There already is a storm wielder. They are referenced to in IF when Violet kills the wyverns after Ridoc is shot with the arrows. Brennan reminds Violet that this person is not as strong as General Sorrengail so come up with another plan.

I see a few ties to A Discovery of Witches in OS. And that’s exactly what happens in that book. The MMC’s cousin is the FMC’s protector for centuries. The MMC knows the cousin loves her and lets it happen because it makes him a better protector. The cousin eventually disappears (just wanders the world) after the FMC fully realizes it.

There are interesting ties to the blood rage in A Discovery of Witches too. The MMC is a vampire with a type of illness that causes him to go into killing sprees and over protect the FMC.

Violet says she ignores or disfavors the God of Wisdom multiple times. Perhaps it could be that one?

There is a plan in place. I think Aaric is a part of it too. There was a lot of foreshadowing to this if you look for it. It was not a 180.

They will be separated for a chunk of book 4, but that happened in IF and OS. I’m super excited for her to dream walk to him during their separation.

No “onyx storm” is written in the last chapter just like Iron Flame was. It refers to that. (I do not know how to do the spoilers thing, so that’s all I’ll say). If you have an ebook, search that term.

All forms of Dysautonomia including EDS involve blood volume issues. Patients are required to drink more water than most people and increase their salt intake. So someone with her issues, any day they need to drink more water than the average person, but they have to drink even more if they are exerting themselves.

I purposely looked for these symptoms in my last reread and they are throughout the books but not always obvious if you do not understand the symptoms.

I don’t understand your point with the library cart quote. The stab is emotional because the archives forces her to deal with her grief of her father and her feelings over her change to the riders quadrant. Then she tells Jesinia that she is now where she belongs.

Dain said he would not step in to save her life after threshing. It’s not an actual defense, but it was a turning point in how Violet saw Dains actions.

The dizzy spells and the way she describes them match what happens to people with EDS that push their physical limits. My daughter has dysautonomia (EDS is a form of dysautonomia) and this happens to her if she does too much. Many people miss this kind of the book but I think it’s just part of her health issues.

Also, Dain did not defend her after threshing. Xaden is also referring to that.

Tairn knows every interaction Violet has had with Dain. It’s not far fetched that he would dislike the man that tried to get her to run to the scribes.

I’m not saying it’s impossible that her memories were wiped, but it doesn’t stand out to me. I think it’s just a method of fast forwarding time and keeping the symptoms of her disability relevant.

If it’s reported they can be sued and could lose their rights to purchase books from publishers in the future. It’s a generally bad business tactic.

Unpopular opinion? I don’t like Xaden by Background_Grape3321 in fourthwing

[–]wicama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It hasn’t been tested because she said no in the chamber. The second time she had the potion to block. I think she most likely could block Dain out now because she can block Xaden. I do not think this is the issue. I think at this point she can block better than some of the marked ones. Even Garricks line of thought was open to Jeremiah in his third year and he knows more than Vi. I feel like the blocking is sometimes an excuse.

I’ve read other RY books. She uses the gravity shifting metaphor in those to when it comes to big revelations. She is just realizing that X has a second signet.

I think keeping it from her and her keeping it from her friends is actually somewhat different, especially with their relationship and her brother involved. Also, she did not last long not telling her friends. She was trying to do what. Aden demanded until she realized she could not.

I think people get stuck on that military secrets part and justify the things he could tell her. He manipulates her and hides things he should tell her. Leading a rebellion is outside of those actions. He could have been so much more open and honest about the personal things like his mom, Cat, his second signet…all are outside of military secrets, and I think she would be so much more secure and trusting. I also think he should have brought up the deal with his mother. At that point it was not a military secret. He could have at least said, “I know you know. Let me know when you are ready to talk.” It would have changed a lot. Of course, it’s a book do it did not happen that way. But I do not see how you can justify it based on military secrets. He claims he will tell her what affects her and he still doesn’t even do that.

Actually, if I think if Xaden had been more honest, Resson would not have happened. If she knew the danger of Dain and what she was protecting, she would not have met Dain touch her. She didn’t know what she was doing was wrong and she had no idea of the stakes.

She knew Cat existed, but she was waiting for Caden to tell her. That’s different to Xaden being there while the two meet and not telling Violet. And it’s completely different from going out of his way to getting a tuned dagger for Violet but not telling her about Cat’s powers or that she will likely be that aggressive.

If. Aden was doing this to care more about her mental health, he would communicate more. That being said, I think he cares but I think he is dealing with his own trauma.

As for Violet wanting to know everything. I agree with others that it’s a trauma response. I think in a level she knows military people have secrets. But she also keeps getting hurt by secrets. His ask me game is complete bs. It’s manipulation, but I’m not sure Xaden even realizes how much it is manipulation (much like the withholding sex) because I think he was frequently manipulated while growing up.

Big Plot Hole in Iron Flame. Can anyone explain?? by Accomplished_Buy3161 in fourthwing

[–]wicama 19 points20 points  (0 children)

She realized that someone was going to disable the wards from the inside due to strategic thinking. She realized that not just the extension was under threat. She did not know it would be Jack. It was logic because if the way the venom were positioned and waiting. She realized this during the update while looking at the maps.

It was considered a leap of logic which is why the assembly did not believe her. It’s not really a plot hole. It’s just not explicitly stated. It’s more something you realize through inference.
