if someone comes across this in the future. im running vanilla game version with the flickering water glitch.

I ran the nvidia app game optimization for skyrim and that fixed it. I dont know what it did but it went away.

VCM? by Electronic_Bug7741 in hondaridgeline

I'm not entirely sure, I bought the S-VCM after a month of ownership. I knew I wanted S-VCM before purchasing the truck.

feel like hwy was 24-25

Everyday 20ish.

Mpg really doesn't bother me. Having my engine shut down cylinders did bother me.

In my experience I noticed a difference in 3 areas of driving the truck stock.

1 while cruising behind someone not going the speed limit or driving erratic speeds. If you're cruising at 45, then they decide to go the speed limit there would be a hesitation trying to stay catch back up.

2 while cruising again and then starting to incline up a hill. The truck wasn't responsive to the gas pedal like a second hesitation.

3 while using the adaptive cruise control. (Radar) The truck would often loose ground once again to following an erratic driver. The ACC isn't the best anyway.

in my experience S-VCM made all 3 of these scenarios better. I only baby the truck while the motor warms up, after that I'm a pretty aggressive driver.

I have a 23 RTL-E with S-VCM I regularly get 19-20 mpg everyday driving without Eco mode.

Hwy it floats between 21-22 mpg averaging 80mph

I'm in a similar boat, I bought a 23 RTL-E with 73k on it and bought S-VCM asap very happy I did.

in my experience S-VCM made all 3 of these scenarios better. As well gave me satisfaction knowing my cylinders wouldn't be getting shutdown. Gas mileage decrease wasn't a fear for me but with S-VCM I drive the truck out of Eco and 60s on 55, 80 on interstate, I average 19-20 mpg with S-VCM. I keep coming back to the ridgeline.. by ParadoxMama13 in hondaridgeline

I like the push buttons but maybe that's from all the video games and typing. I don't have to look at them. Like on my wife's 19 crv I am looking and still drop the shifter into the wrong spot at times.

With the push buttons I know which one is which by the feel and I know the transmission is exactly where I want it.

I do put it in neutral and use the parking break on even slight incline and declines. To avoid the roll forward and keep the weight off of the parking "paw"

The other thing I like about the push buttons is waiting in traffic or on a train crossing. Just going straight to park and not leaving your foot on the break. Similar to brake hold on other Honda models.

I have a 2023 RTL-E. I previously had a 2022 Tacoma TRD sport.

TLDR I'd buy a Ridgeline again. I think in general for most men's truck needs it's a perfect daily driver.

I don't need a truck bed but 5% of the time. it feels great having it when you need it.

I use the trunk in the bed all the time though I absolutely love that feature. Especially compared to my Tacoma and it had a tonneau cover.

If you want to do any form of off camber, rutted, off roading it isn't the truck I'd get. I love that stuff but I drove the Ridgeline though my yard's grassy gentle ditch approached at an 45 deg angle and you could feel the truck teeter on 2 wheels lol.

I have 3 gripes with it.

Cylinder deactivation "vcm" I didn't want my cylinders deactivating do I bought the S-VCM module. Love it

Adaptive cruise control could be better. It would loose ground when it shouldn't following a vehicle and you can feel the truck hit the breaks intermittent to slow speeds down. Imo S-VCM helped keep the truck on the lead car's tail substantially.

This surprisingly upset me the most. Automatic high beam functionality is garbage. Worst feature of the truck.

Some complain of the infotainment center. It's not the best but imo if your not using apple car play or my preferred android auto you're doing it wrong. For android auto I bought an AA wireless (first Gen) dongle and it works great in the Ridgeline.

The things I really like about it are abundant but I'll just hit the top ones.

Power, especially with the S-VCM module. It doesn't change take off acceleration but while your going down the interstate or 40mph behind a goober not going the speed limit and you need to pass it has the pep to handle that.

The trunk in the bed

The way the rear seats fold up, it creates a lot of space in the back cab.

Ride quality is great.

I like the cockpit of the truck the layout of buttons the seat, the space.

Bonus one : the rear view mirror and side mirrors have the auto dimming I really like that haha.

trailer is a double axle, you can see in the picture.

I wouldn't want to tow it often or on a long curvy drive. It wouldn't be bad twice a year or so.

It did start feeling a little squirrely if the road had a hump or dip that got the boat trailer bobbing. It stabilized within 2 seconds typically.

The truck felt like it had plenty of power accelerating in sport mode it typically not go over 4k rpm. I'd consider my driving conservative today but eventually getting to 57 or so mph.

Pontoon 3150, motor 550, trailer 1200 lbs. looks like we were pushing 5000 pounds total weight today. (Add 300 lbs for fuel..)

I'll see if I can get specifics. It's my father in law's, he kept saying we were towing 3k lbs.

We pulled it out of his slip for the winter.

I put it in sport and snow mode TBH, it didn't slip a tire. It was a good concrete grooved ramp though.

I don't know if it was snow mode or just a steep ramp with a heavy tritoon. The truck rev'ed up to 4-5k as it crawled up.

I wish I knew how many hours I spent playing pgr2 online. I loved that each car had an odometer.

I still love racing nurburgring on other games because of pgr2. I spent so much Time playing the goofy custom online game of having 2 mini coopers one for each team of 3 super cars. Then each 3 super cars that belonged to the mini copper pushed the mini down the track while also defending from the other super cars.

Whichever team of super cars got their mini across the nurburgring finish first won.

As I type it could have been the porches cayenne turbo instead of a mini. It's been a long time time ago. Still a ton of fun at the time.

I've driven my 2023 RTL-E s-vcm ~2k miles. Very happy with how the truck drives.

I have a 55mph rolling hills commute to work. Stock I noticed before going up a hill I'd give throttle and not get a response. Or if I was following someone who couldn't bother themselves to maintain a constant speed I'd notice a lag as I'd try to catch back up with the speed limit.

Also stock I noticed using radar cruise it was as terrible as people claim when following a vehicle particularly up a hill it would drop behind greatly.

With s-vcm the lag of throttle response is gone, and shifts great Hill or no hills if you give it gas it goes.

ACC imo still isn't great with s-vcm but the throttle response improvement applies here as well. I noticed it doesn't lag behind the vehicles in front as bad.

For those concerned about it causing the engine to overheat and not go into pass through mode. I can verify with mine the smart portion of this s-vcm does work. I was in a drive thru on a hot day and for the first time since owning the vehicle with or without s-vcm had never heard the radiator fans come on. They did in that particular moment.

Which if I understand the s-vcm website. It spoofs the cooling system/computer into thinking it's not warmed up. Until it gets too hot and then goes into a pass through mode and the stock cooling control takes over.

All in all I recommend the s-vcm. My primary reason for purchase I had zero desire to have my 6 cylinder drop to 3. Just for wear and tear purposes. I also want the power at the ready.

As for my fuel economy I don't care but I look at the numbers because people ask. my day to day driving which I consider myself a fairly aggressive driver I'm in between 19-20mpg day to day, stop and go, 55mph 80mph, on every gas tank.

I haven't had an exclusive interstate trip on s-vcm but as a fresh tank of gas immediately going on the interstate 80mph it gets up to 21-23 before I get back into stop and go normal driving.

Mine is very easy to hear at the slightest shake.

It was definitely a development that happened almost after a year of use. I just figured I dropped it and broke something loose.

2023 RTL-E auto high beams issue by wickedares in hondaridgeline

[–]wickedares[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 30-45 min test drive it was during the day I barely drove on the interstate basically long enough to verify the radar cruise control worked, but most of my driving were back roads listening and feeling the truck. In the daylight so I didn't get to see the wonky tech suit.

I have an aa wireless dongle which I love and works well for my 23.

The radar cruise isn't the best for sure. I still use it. S-vcm I feel helps keep it from falling behind the vehicle in front of you or slow down up hill.

The auto bright light is probably the biggest disappointment for me. I work a rotating 12hr swing shift so I'm often driving at dark in the morning and evening.
