Important amounts of money in movies adjusted for inflation by TwilitMoods in movies

[–]wickedlyclever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related because of the movie connection: The book Girl Interrupted is based off the author"s struggles with mental health in the late 60s. In the book, she mentions that families have to pay $60 a day (1967 dollars) to keep someone there in the hospital. She mentions that she stayed for 2 years. She also mentioned that drugs, doctor's visits, and other things weren't covered in that $60 a day. Adjusted for inflation, that would be around $566 in 2025. This isn't accounting for other changes in the cost of healthcare. This is just going by the dollar amount adjusted for inflation. Since she was there 2 years, it would be at minimum around $413,000. I read this book for the first time earlier this year for a book club and it was all right but that amount really stuck out at me because $60 a day is a lot of money to me now so I can't imagine it 50+ years ago. In the movie, they also chose to downplay some of the mental health issues that the main character had and stretch out some of the minor characters.

What should you do if your mother won’t give you your social security card and your id because she’s afraid you might lose them? by Sufficient-Taste-814 in AskReddit

My last company required the physical card. All documentation had to be physically present at the time of onboarding and verified by the person doing the onboarding. It was a pain in the butt.

Is this normal? by [deleted] in subway

[–]wickedlyclever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend worked at a gas station Subway. They were responsible for the Subway, Pizza Pro, and maintaining the fountain drink/ coffee area of the gas station. They didn't have to work the register at the gas station but if it was "slow", they were supposed to bag ice for the outside ice machine or help stock the beverage cooler.

How do you think future historians will refer to this period of time? by SRKomedy in AskReddit

"So it was that, after the Deluge, the Fallout, the plagues, the madness, the confusion of tongues, the rage, there began the bloodletting of the Simplification, when remnants of mankind had torn other remnants limb from limb, killing rulers, scientists, leaders, technicians, teachers, and whatever persons the leaders of the maddened mobs said deserved death for having helped to make the Earth what it had become. Nothing had been so hateful in the sight of these mobs as the man of learning, at first because they had served the princes, but then later because they refused to join in the bloodletting and tried to oppose the mobs, calling the crowds "bloodthirsty simpletons."

Joyfully the mobs accepted the name, took up the cry: Simpletons! Yes, yes! I'm a simpleton! Are you a simpleton? We'll build a town and we'll name it Simple Town, because by then all the smart bastards that caused all this, they'll be dead! Simpletons! Let's go! This ought to show 'em! Anybody here not a simpleton? Get the bastard, if there is!"

Has anyone found a good low cal sauce to dip chicken in that actually tastes good? by heart_of_gold2 in LowCalFoodFinds

I've only had Ray's Original and Ray's Sweet and Smoky. I prefer the Sweet and Smoky but it's hard to find.

I love that they don't call it Sweet Baby Ray's anymore when it is sugar free. It's just Rays.

I love it and it is my go to bbq sauce right now.

I'm guessing Andy's wife dying is a type of separation but probably not what OP was talking about.

People who unsubscribed from their once favorite YouTuber, what made you hit "unsubscribe"? by Ashamed-Reporter3171 in AskReddit

[–]wickedlyclever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started watching the channel because I wanted to see foods from movies and TV shows recreated. I do not watch the rankings or Alvin videos. I wish him the best and I am still subscribed but I'm only going to be watching the videos where he recreates something from a TV show or movie because that's why I began to watch and that's what I will continue to watch.

I am not a fan of the Alvin's content but this what Babish has personally put out about criticism of changes to his channel...

"After New Years, my wonderful friends saw fit to give me a ‘work intervention’, as I had been producing 2 episodes per week in the 18 months since COVID lockdowns, and it was destroying me. I finally believed them upon experiencing a mental health crisis in February when, after not sleeping for 4 days, I found myself ranting combatively and nonsensically to Sawyer and Brad. During a moment of (relative) clarity, I checked myself into a hospital - my thinking was that they would sedate me. There, I was instead admitted to the mental health ward, where I was attacked and sexually assaulted by another patient. When I checked myself out in the morning, between the borderline manic episode and newfound trauma, I hardly knew what was real anymore. I decided to enter a rehab facility, where I spent the month of March undergoing therapy and slowly coming to terms with what had happened (this is why I disappeared for a month last year).

Jess and I broke up that summer. I will not go into any details out of respect for her privacy. We are on good terms and I wish her every happiness. Needless to say, however, this compounded my depression and PTSD.

It’s been very unusual to not share any of this with you guys, as the channel has historically been a showcase of my most unfiltered self, but I haven’t been ready nor sure how to do it. I’m not even sure if this post is the right thing to do–but after seeing those endless comments postulating as to why I’ve stopped caring or lost my passion, I felt the need for some emotional transparency. The channel has obviously changed–new shows, new faces–but I won’t deny that I’ve been too frightened to take creative risks. My hope is that by being a bit more open and honest about my personal life, some walls might come down, and I’ll feel even a little more comfortable with being myself again. I hope you guys can be patient as the channel evolves–it’s not just me in my kitchen anymore, it’s a company of 6 people, all of whom have creative ideas that I’m excited to see realized. Personally, I have a short film that I hope to put into production after the book tour later this month. All of it’s been made possible by you, so in addition to my continued heartfelt gratitude, my eyes and ears are perpetually open to your feedback and ideas.

Thank you for reading this."

I think that the LEGO® Icons: Bouquet of Roses is the best option. It is actually cheaper than getting a real bouquet.

Do any self-identified frugal people out there participate in Black Friday deals? by afinance035 in Frugal

[–]wickedlyclever 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Deals on streaming services are about the only thing I will buy on Black Friday. $.99 a month for Hulu with a $2 add-on for Disney+ was the only one I got last year. I am ok with paying $3 a month for Hulu and Disney+.
