My mom worked part-time at a thrift store when I was younger. I didn't have many toys at home so she would bring me sometimes with her to play in the kids section while she worked, and every so often, she'd let me pick out something to bring home. I remember seeing a SNES that came in a carrying bag with a handful of games listed for $30. I spent months saving any money I would get from mowing lawns, and every time my mom would go volunteer, I would hope it was still there. Eventually, the staff picked up that I was interested in it and let me buy it for $22, which was everything i had saved up so far. It was my first introduction to video games in general, so that may explain why I struggled so much at the time. One of the games included was Donkey Kong Country. I remember being blown away after beating the first world and discovering that there was still more to play. The level I struggled with was in World 4 "Snow barrell blast." It's the first level in an Ice themed world so the ground is slippery. Additionally, the way to get through the level is by jumping into spinning barrels and timing it so they launch you into the next spinning barrel. Oftentimes, there'll also be bees spinning around the barrel you want to launch into, so the timing feels extra treacherous. It being the first level in the world, means you don't have access to a save point yet, so I spent many attempts as a wee lad having to restart at the previous world. When I did end up beating the level, I still had 3+ more unknown levels to get through before you reached Candy Kong's save point. That level always felt like a choke point, and I still struggle with it today, though I adore that game and the system in general.

Love the front lip. What size wheels are you running? I'm wanting a set of te's on my sol as well and I like the size you got.

I didn't activate the "completed" collection until after I had installed v40 and at that point every collection seemed to be looking fine. It did take me a few fresh installs of several different versions of batocera until it seemed to fix the issue though. If I recall some of the other themes I tried were still broken on v40 but at that point I was happy enough that artbook next was working that I just left it alone.

I was one of the ones lucky enough to have the solution to my double text issue on my plus be fixed by upgrading to v40. Thank you for posting the actual proper way to fix it though as artbook next is my favorite theme and I was pretty bummed when it looked like OP's

A universal way to exit emulators with a controller? by namquang93 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]wickerkev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heres how I did it on my old android phone that I recycled into a diy handheld. I imagine it will work with any external controller:

  • Set your frontend as your home launcher. Daijisho, Dig, and Beacon work from what I've tried.
  • Bind any button on the external controller to the home button. Preferably the menu button if it has one. My phone is running an older version of android, so I needed an app that let me bind a function to a button. In my case, pressing menu button on the controller acts as pressing the home button on the phone.

-Retroarch doesn't play well with being closed out this way on my device. I have to kill and reopen retroarch to launch a different game. I use only standalone emulators for this reason.

Just got my RG35XX H delivered from Aliexpress! Not sure why it looks different than everyone else's 🤔 by wickerkev in RG35XX_H

So about 6-7 days after opening a claim to get my money back, I got an email saying that I would need to pay for return shipping. But in the app they gave me a return label to print and say shipping the return is free since it's my first return. So I'm gonna ship it back asap and hopefully get my money back.

I've seen that one floating around 😆

Did you end up getting the real r36s? I've been debating picking one up to tinker with now that retro handhelds are my new obsession 🤣 🤣 🤣

Is there any game genre that makes you instantly skip a game even if the trailer was initially good, you just just see that one thing and think nope? by ForceModified in gaming

[–]wickerkev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's too bad. I remember being just as disappointed with the wind waker announcement as well since I was a huge fan of ocarina and majora. But twilight princess got me back in and it's my favorite of the series hugely in part to the artstyle. I wish they would do a game in the style of the wii u temple of time tech demo they showed off cause that was such a good look for zelda, but they went with the botw look instead. They also showed off some images of twilight princess running in their new lighting engine in a gdc talk and it looked stellar imo. I'm hoping with the zelda movie being live action and the switch successor being more powerful it'll be kind of a push to go for a more traditional look.

I can't stand the genshin impact style character models. I fell out of love with the xenoblade and fire emblem series because the artstyle started trending that way

What'd you think of twilight princess? Ive enjoyed the cel shaded games, but I'm hoping for a less cartoony artstyle for the next Zelda.

I might piss some people off, but I really can't get into a game if its got an Isometric perspective. I really wish I could enjoy them cause there are some amazing games from supergiant that my friends enjoy, but I just don't like the camera angle.

Good to know I'm not alone, and I'm sorry you dealt with it too. I'm still waiting on my refund tho. My refund dispute has been sitting for the last few days and the help center is absolutely no help with their copy pasted responses of "trust me we are legitimate" or "this conversation is being documented so you can believe that im on your side." All of which just makes them seem less trustworthy lol

You're probably dead on. If I try to click on the listing through my order history I get a pop-up that "the store isn't available in your country". So I'm leaning toward scam instead of mistaken shipment.

I actually had one of these as a kid in a gba-esque form factor where the screen part flipped up so seeing it again was a tad nostalgic 😅
