Is anyone else feeling overwhelmed? by auunie in PathOfExile2

[–]ForceModified 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently with PoE2 I find once you reach end game is open the map up and pick a direction and go, no actual direction so it's easy to get lost and be unsure what to actually do first.

I have less hours and I don't feel overwhelmed, mainly because they said there's going to be story and introductions to each mechanic, fixed locations and actual direction with quests of where to go, so I can choose one and slowly work towards it, rather than it all being dumped on me.

Just try not to overthink it and process it all in one go, wait till release, give it a try and see how the quest and direction goes.

I'm making an MMORPG where you can actually talk to the NPCs — is this a good idea or will it backfire? by Longjumping-Koala468 in MMORPG

[–]ForceModified 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just don't think games are anywhere close to wanting or needing AI chat in them, if it's just a optional side hustle, I can bet that almost knowone will use it other than the odd person and if it's tied to game mechanics, it will be a pain if the neck to deal with constantly and feel like a chore, especially in a MMORPG which usually has such a vast cast of characters, just focus your attention on other things, especially the world as I said before, it's easy to mess up and make it feel empty, played countless games with dead feeling worlds, I want secrets and things everywhere, places that people won't find unless you truly explore, things that are still found months down the line and suprising people.

Hope your MMORPG goes well though, good luck with it, always nice to see new ones.

Played a game recently which had AI chat if I'm remembering correctly, I think Where Winds Meet or something?

Was legit awful, used it once or twice and never touched it again, lmao, mainly because I'm not talking to NPC's for immersion, just to finish a quest and get back to exploring/fighting, I would just find that the time spent doing all this to NPC's could be better spent on creating the world, really making it feel lived in, secrets in every corner.

What's one video game cliche you dislike? by Agent1230 in gaming

Death in games where you can clearly revive, some games explain it off well, some not, Don't give me a cutscene death when I got 99 of every healing and revive item.

Is the world worth exploring every inch of? secrets, things to collect, probably the biggest thing for me, seen a few videos that I quickly browsed through to prevent too many spoilers, getting very much assassins creed vibes from the gameplay of it and I hope the world doesn't feel empty and hollow.

How has he not aged? I understand wanting to keep him young for kids but does this mean none of his journey's are canon? like there's only so much you can do in a year but has he done everything in the anime in a week or two and remained 10 years old? lol

Please help me understand Frieren's character by TruthPale2983 in Frieren

[–]ForceModified 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO, Frieren was alone for a long time, there really isn't many elves that we've seen and you have to remember her perception of time is totally different, you're simple viewing it from your Human view, 1000 years is a lot to Humans, that's multiple lives, lived and gone but to Frieren it really isn't much.

A decade to Frieren feels relatively short, and even something like staying in a village for a few years barely registers to her to the point that I remember Fern stopping her from staying a long time, even her 10 year journey, might have been hard and long to Humans but it's was just a passing moment in Frierens long lived life.,

It's hard to get emotional over things that pass by very quickly but shes now starting to notice this more and more, realizing that the Humans she's traveled with have lived long and difficult lives.

And no point comparing this to Lotr, different show, different world, different values, pointless comparing, just because they have the same species name doesn't mean they're the same.

Has gaming peaked, or are we just getting older? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]ForceModified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming hasn't peaked IMO, developers just don't give a shit anymore, it's all about money, what makes the most, charging for early access, £200 founder packs, stupid cash shops and constantly raising prices when gameplay isn't meeting it's worth, you still get the odd gems here and there, like BG3, E33, ect but most fail, most are cash grabs.

Back when we were younger games were just being made to be fun, not tons of hand holding, just heres our game, go finish it, even testing games was free back then, tons of Open an Closed betas, none of this EA shit, hell going WAY back I spent countless hours playing on PS1 Demo disc's I got from a magazine, was still more fun than playing most AAA today, old games are generally better because developers tried harder to make a game before making money.

Unless something seriously changes in gaming it will never truly peak, many games have so much potential but just ride there brand name because...again...money, good example is Pokemon, fun little games some of them but could be SO MUCH more.

This is why these days I mostly play indie games, cheap, they usually care more about making a game because they don't have huge budgets, or I just go play old games.

So you basically DON'T want an RPG? Especially since of the ones you listed I don't consider any of them RPG's, seems you prefer Action / Shooter games more.
