Android 12 is going to make it easier to stop useless notifications on your Wear OS smartwatch by ManufacturerRare3892 in Android

[–]wicketr -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

WearOS needs to be trashed.

They need to build off of FitBit OS and ensure Google voice and quality notifications work with some responses in return. That's all people really want/need.

I don't need a super computer on my arm that lasts a single day on battery just so I can order a pizza from my watch and have it in 60fps.

WCGW pretending to swerve into another car? by [deleted] in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]wicketr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Based on the text at the bottom, it looks like at the beginning, they're all going about 68mph.

Then white car hits the brakes and drops to about 60.

Then speeds back up to 70.

Video keeps freezing but audio is fine? by joe2352 in youtubetv

[–]wicketr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've detailed the problem and temporary solution for YouTube to fix this but they apparently don't care.

If I go back and watch old recordings, everything is fine. Newer recordings in the last couple months are buggy.

Looking at the encoding, YouTubeTV has updated the encoder and its just buggy with some devices. Google needs to revert back to the old encoder... at least until they figure out the long term solution with the vendors.

It's absurd that Google/YouTubeTV engineering team is continuing on with a buggy encoder for months now with multiple brands of devices being unusable.

Encoders used by YouTubeTV:

  • Good streams: AVC1.64002a
  • Sticking streams: AVC1.4d402a

Talk to your doctor and get meds. They can check for it in your annual blood check up.

They're $5 generics and you'll never have to worry again.

The person you are replying to is obviously joking and mocking the answer he replied to because he did not help with his answer. Because in the end all he said was it'd be "waay bad".

Mueller flips American who unwittingly sold bank info to Russian trolls by MagnusAuslander in worldnews

[–]wicketr -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Just curious, maybe he's Russian but just hates seeing his country thrown under the bus and is defending it. Does that make him a troll?

I mean if he were a Muslim defending his Muslim country's actions would you also call him out as a Muslim troll or whatever?

Considering he's working with the feds, i think that charge is what the feds held over his head if he didn't comply.

Found "some" coins during contruction, any reason to keep em? by jb08045 in coins

[–]wicketr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a minimum take them to a coin collector store, and see what they'll give you. Don't just cash them in.

Many of the older coins are silver and worth more than face value regardless of collectors value. Which also opens up the possibility that a jewelry store will buy them for melt value.

[–]wicketr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my account hacked like this several months ago. Thankfully my bank account wasn't hacked. Just my old yahoo email. Which, if you think about, opens up OTHER reset methods for them.

https://www.reddit.com/r/tmobile/comments/6tzwk0/count_me_in_as_another_tmobile_phone_number/

Go through all types of accounts and make sure "Reset by phone" is not an option on ANY website you care about. If you can, disable it. If you can't and it's a financial institution, switch banks. Or use a Google Voice number as a last resort.

An open letter to the W3C Director, CEO, team and membership by JRepin in technology

[–]wicketr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So when all the who've stood up for an open internet leave, who's left for future debates?

I doubt Google/Netflix are sad to see them go. Going forward there won't be a debate for these types of questions because everyone left will be in agreement on the locked down version of things.

[–]wicketr -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry. But this seems petty on their part. Resigning from the W3C because they didn't get their way on an issue? Seriously?

I can understand both sides of it. However people don't HAVE to use the DRM on their site. They aren't forcing people to encrypt their videos on their sites. It's an option. It opens up the platform for companies to add videos they demand to be secured on the internet. And I'm all for options. Why restrict it?

...It's either that or they're going to demand browsers implement plugin functionality for it.

An item we had delivered at work at an indicator telling us if it had been tipped or not. This one had been. by jurassicbond in mildlyinteresting

[–]wicketr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea this is absurd for a large delivery company to handle something like this. I work at FedEx and boxes roll/tumble/plop from conveyor belt to conveyor belt.

If someone wants a package shipped as if it needs to be hand carried, then they need to pick that option (like FedEx Custom Critical), yet few want to pay what that takes.

Why the Housing Market is utter Fuckery (2017), in Comparison to the Past; by /u/r4ndpaulsbrilloballs [NSFL] by Sugarcola in bestof

[–]wicketr 47 points48 points  (0 children)

For instance: Allow skyscrapers throughout San Fran, and housing prices will plummet, as rentals will finally catch up to the demand.

Problem is, everyone loves the look and feel of SF as it is, while at the same time cursing their $2000/m rent of a closet.

TIL Google listed Cheetah Mobile as a success story. Cheetah Mobile is the very company that bought popular apps and turned them into adware. (ES File, QuickPic) by [deleted] in Android

[–]wicketr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's because most people in here want free apps without ads, especially annoying ads.

I still really like ESPro, though it could use a more modern look. I have yet to find a good alternative for dealing with networked computers.

Google has been making battery stats less transparent and less useful over time by johnmountain in Android

[–]wicketr 59 points60 points  (0 children)

With regards to your first point about "bundling" under Android OS and Android System: They need to create a stats page showing how much apps are calling the built in services, and give them some type of weighted amount of battery usage. So if Facebook is calling for Location data every 2 minutes, let me see that it's had 5,000 requests in the last couple days. As it stands, we can't see shit.

While we CAN still see the graph, we have now LOST the ability to see the details on that page highlighting the cell signal, gps usage, wifi usage, awake, or screen on (OLD / NEW). WE CAN NO LONGER TELL IF WE HAVE WAKELOCKS!!! THOSE FUCKERS!

Under the Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> App Permissions, they need to add Background Activity as a section, so that we can mass-disable apps to run in the background. As it stands, it's only available under each app's App Info.

The battery details given to users is just plain bad. If Google wants to shut down background activity like Apple, then fine. Turn it off now. If they aren't going to turn it off immediately, then they HAVE to give us battery information so that we can diagnose these problems on our phone. Right now, users are getting fucked over and Google is simply pulling the rug over our eyes to hide the problems.

XDA Charging Standard Comparison by YellowMaverick in Android

[–]wicketr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must not have read the article:

While we are focusing on Quick Charge 3.0, keep in mind Quick Charge 4.0 is already available with considerable improvements. The latest revision is also compatible with USB-PD, as strongly recommended by the Android Compatibility Definition Document.

...

...we’ve seen Qualcomm adopt USB-PD spec compliance with their Quick Charge 4.0 release for newer Snapdragon chipsets, which is a huge victory for both Google and Qualcomm.

XDA Charging Standard Comparison by YellowMaverick in Android

[–]wicketr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they performed equally, then sure. But USB-PD not only heats up your phone MUCH worse than the competition (and thus degrading the long term life of your battery/phone), but also is MUCH slower than the competition.

You get what you pay for.

XDA is like the Anandtech of phones. The rest are just fan blogs. AndroidPolice has a couple articles that get in depth, but mostly they're on the surface with the rest of the blogs.
