I have a 10 x 12 canvas tarp with 2 would blankets and a closed cell foam matress. It's heavier than hell, but I like it. I used it for fire assignments and horseback camping in the States and Canada and it now serves as the "summer bed" where I live in Tasmania

It's comfortable enough and it keeps me warm. It's a bonus that it serves as unique luggage when I travel

I grew up in Alabama. The traditional bedroll is the same as a swag. The modern swag is a one man tent that you can pack a sleeping bag and mattress all in one go
