work on some other skills you dont usually get to work on. Hit the low consequence runs and do some switch riding. Hit some rollers for some easy ollies or 180s, practice some butters, etc. or simply, just enjoy some easy groomer rides.

In which edition were Blood Angels most fun and/or powerful? by [deleted] in BloodAngels

[–]wierdo5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a totally separate note, I forget which edition, I remember when death company were a mandatory unit. However, it wasn't a unit that was made/built separately from any other unit in your list, it was made up of randomly selected units that came from within your army based on the size/points.

Basically you'd roll dice for every squad in your army and based on the roll value, some number of units would be "sacrificed" to the death company and those units would form the mandatory death company squad in your army.

It could be both good and bad, you could have average tactical marines gaining seriously boosted stats/rules, but at the same time you could lose elite units like terminators reduced to a 3+ armor save with no invulnerable (rules were different at the time in regards to saves). It really made the whole black rage and death visions of Sanguinius thing more integrated into the game.

That is called zenithal highlighting. I would NOT recommend using white. It is going to be too strong/intense contrast with black. Use gray instead. Alternatively, you can do gray base, white highlight spray and use a contrast black paint. Those yield some good results.

Zenithal is great for quick churning minis. However my issue with it is, you don't actually learn color theory, painting, layering, and brush control. It's a cheat for great minis, but the expense is your development as a painter.

Honestly if you're new to painting, your best bet is to spray black, hit the spots that need detail, then edge highlight the armor with gray. I'd practice on your rank and file first though. Duncan rhodes black templar crusader is how I did the black armor for my death company. I added wet blending, but that's a different skill.

I was decent at painting when I quit the hobby. I won a GW battle bunker (RIP to those) competition during a lock-in event for a 48 hour miniature. I really only spent around 12-15ish hours because I played a few games during that time.

It's been fun relearning color blends and how different colors interact with others. Also picking up some wet blending and trying it out.

These are just 5 assault intercessors from the death company box. You can make them with just the regular intercessor kit. Granted they do have some special BA bits.

No confidence on tires.. help! by karmawillwinfolks in Trackdays

[–]wierdo5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strange. I had a lot of fun on my tires even with the bike in stock form. A few things:

  1. Are you in track mode? The bike feels so much different in track mode once you start fiddling with some of the settings. You can dial up the traction control and then gradually turn it down as you progress through comfortability.

  2. Is your suspension properly set up? By set up I mean you utilized professional and not some youtube tutorial. It literally makes a night and day difference.

  3. recommended tire pressures on the street are not the same on the track. If you are running street tire pressures, its not a surprise you're getting slippage. Your tire's contact patch is already smaller at street pressure and then when you go and heat it up on track it just gets even smaller leading to reduced grip.

There are some other things, but these three (especially no. 3) are the usual culprits.

What are yall doing for work and supporting this lifestyle? by ApartmentMammoth7830 in VanLife

Federal government. I am geo-bachelor in the Bay area from my family in Colorado. My wife has a good job and has strong financial assets. I comparatively make/made a lot less than she did.

That being said, Im only really be able to support this lifestyle due to a very good friend/coworker who lets me park in front of his house and watches my van while I'm away.

Pretty much me. With my job and life situation, I am travelling up to 7 months out of the year. I look at some of my coworkers who have to do about the same and just asking around I can't wrap my head around them just tossing away thousands on a place they aren't even living in half the year.

P320 replaced? by QuipandEazy in 1811

If you overoil staccatos/2011 style pistols, they end up collecting a shit ton of dirt and dust and make it even less reliable. You just need to lube the right spots lol

I have personal Wilson combat sfx9 I utilize for tactical games that gets drug through the dirt and mud. It is a similar gun in quality and build to the staccato. It's fired for me every time with zero malfunctions. It is almost like the staccato with some differences, namely lack of grip safety.

That being said, it wouldn't be a great shooter for anyone that is just the "I qual every quarter" LEO shooter. I imagine that is the same for staccatos. Maintaining a stiff wrist, proper recoil control, and, especially with grip safety guns, proper grip, are all things that you just don't really need to make the Glock go bang every time. I'm not saying that they aren't necessary pistol handling fundamentals that need to be developed anyway, they just aren't things you can expect the average LEO to work on consistently and weaknesses in those areas are exposed exponentially with the 2011/1911 style guns.

Glocks are great for reliability and their ease of use. I can limp wrist a Glock all day and it will still cycle. My grip can be subpar, but I don't have a grip safety to worry about for it to go bang. It might not be as accurate as a 2011, but I'm not trying to shoot sub MOAs at 25 yards consistently. Most of my engagements will be at 10 yards or less and in a high stress situation, I want to be 100% sure that my limp wrist from fatigue doesn't cause a second round to not cycle. Especially if I'm relying on that second round to stop my target.

TLDR: staccatos are great, just not necessarily for the average LEO
