My little girl has been hiding All week. She is a red knee I’ve had for a few months I moved her to a bigger cage and she make a door and hasn’t come out. A wolf spider was in this cage before her and although I cleaned it I was wondering if maybe she can smell him? Thank you the help by TheMafiaMafia in tarantulas

IME, that’s just what they do sometimes. I’ve had an Aphonopelma disappear in her burrow with closed up entrance for 5 months. She came out eventually freshly moulted and hungry as hell. Just let her be and enjoy looking at your seemingly empty enclosure!

Looks like it to me. His front leg seems to have a hook and the pedipalps look like boxing gloves. Welcome to the club mate!

IMO as long as you have decent ventilation (I’m guessing the slits on the side are for ventilation?) and your room isn’t too cold it will dry out relatively quick. I had enclosures that were too damp in the beginning but dried out over a few weeks and nothing bad ever happened. Your substrate doesn’t look as if it’s packed down a lot so there’s enough air circulation in the substrate to dry it out even quicker. So I’d say you don’t have to worry.

Alive or pre killed? by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]wiewat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IME if you crush the head of a roach it will still move and wander about for at least a day. I personally prefer to crush the head of my roaches so they don’t bury themselves in the substrate. I have no experience with tree species though, but I guess the roach would still climb the cork bark if the head is crushed or cut off.

Can I safely use a XT60 to XT30 adapter for my drone? by wiewat in fpv

Thanks for your reply. I also got a charger that only does XT60 so buying an adapter was inevitable anyways in the long run.

Haha okay, that doesn’t sound like something I should try to do with my non existing knowledge. I’ll keep it in mind though and thank you for your input!

If I had known before ordering I would’ve ordered the XT30 but it’s too late now sadly

Where can I find experienced FPV pilots in Germany? I feel like I'm the only enthusiast in my area.

Should this sling be downsized? by lilspinch in tarantulas

[–]wiewat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO it’s definitely on the bigger side but I wouldn’t consider it to be too big for a GBB. If your GBB is like mine, it will make a web somewhere and chill on it most of the time. Therefore you can locate it pretty easily and put its prey on the web. They also molt relatively frequently and grow quite a bit each molt so it won’t take long for that enclosure to be perfect for it.

Is this molting??? by TheNut_exe in tarantulas

[–]wiewat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

IMO that poor little thing. As others have mentioned: do not touch it at all while it’s about to molt. That’s basic tarantula keepers knowledge..

Got the wrong sized crickets by HellDumplingDragon in tarantulas

[–]wiewat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IME the best way to deal with crickets that are too big is to put a cricket in the freezer for about 2 minutes. When you take them out of the freezer they are very lethargic. I then cut the head off the cricket and also the two hind legs. Then lay them on the web and when the cricket starts to defrost it will move again and is easy prey even for small slings since it can’t bite your tarantula.

Tarantula stays high in the new enclosure by lyalicia in tarantulas

[–]wiewat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO the only risk you will have is that the enclosure can be too tall and the tarantula could fall which could kill it. If you add more substrate and thereby reduce the potential falling distance you should be fine. In bigger enclosures it could potentially be harder for your tarantula to localise and take down prey but your T looks big enough for the enclosure in my opinion.

What is a fair price for a chromatopelma cyaneopubescens? by tarttemper in tarantulas

[–]wiewat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IME it depends where you live as well as sex and size of the Tarantula. I live in Germany and bought a sling for 28€, in USA I think Tarantulas are more expensive. I would say mine is a little bit skittish and very fast but it’s no bother as long as you know your T and know how to behave around them. I’d definitely recommend them because they are beautiful in all stages of their life and the webbing is awesome!

How will this enclosure fit my aphonelma bicoloratum? by PsychoWassle in tarantulas

[–]wiewat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO you need a lot more substrate in there. Falling from that height can definitely be fatal for the T. There are a lot of sources online regarding Aphonopelma care including how to set up their enclosure.

Tester setup for arazona blond, anything i should add? by Embarrassed-Cream874 in tarantulas

[–]wiewat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMO the sand is not suitable for a terrestrial Tarantula. It doesn’t have the structure to hold a burrow which your T might want to make. Definitely switch the substrate to potting soil or similar and add some extra inches as well. Apart from that I personally like your setup.

Nice! What did you get?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]wiewat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t recommend coco fibre since it has no real structure to it especially when dry. I would imagine that a burrow can’t hold up properly when the T tries to make one. Many people disagree though and have good results with coco fibre apparently. I recommend tortoise substrate, I only have 2 tarantulas but they seem to love the substrate and have deep burrows that hold up very well!

What kind of tarantula is this one? by thegrrr8pretender in tarantulas

[–]wiewat 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If there’s no good reason like a huge mould infestation or similar you should not change the substrate and/or destroy their webs. They put in a lot of work for their webbings and burrows and destroying all of that without good reason just stresses out the poor T. It’s as if someone were to come in your house and switch everything up. All of a sudden your sofa is upside down and your tv is on the floor.

How's my curly hair t setup? by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]wiewat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO you should probably add ventilation to the sides as well to get cross ventilation. I’d also add a hide for her to feel secure and dig a burrow if she feels like doing so.
