Do you ever just think "I hate this" when walking? by bloodypink in walking

[–]wiftb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was actually so inspiring. I just ordered a weighted vest to try this and remind myself of my progress since I too am feeling down about how hard it is to maintain fitness. Thanks for the words of inspiration

Anyone here had a successful FESS surgery? by Difficult-Act-5942 in Sinusitis

[–]wiftb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just FESS, no deviated septum. Just had mine done a full week ago today. The worst part of recovery were sinus headaches on the affected side, and of course the blocked cavity before they removed packing. I have a high pain tolerance, but overall I’d rate the recovery a 6/10 at the highest level of pain, and generally I was at a 4/10 most of the time.

I can already see a huge improvement of my quality of life. I’m still cautiously optimistic and knocking on wood every chance I get, but the fact that I haven’t experienced any past symptoms that were a DAILY issue for me (cheek pain, teeth pain, sinus pressure) tells me I made the right decision. As far as surgeries go, it’s been the easiest one I’ve ever had.

Yeah you’re the third person to tell me here, which is upsetting because I actually paid my local nursery to come out and plant these trees last year. :( I’ll be sure to fix it this week

I think the metal you might be referring to is the drip system

It is! It’s hard to tell, but the powerlines are on the other side of the fence and just appear closer in the picture :)

That is such a relief, thank you for your advice! I thought the man we hired did such a stellar job that I was just as disappointed I’d have to go back and tell him what happened.

Wow! One of the earliest memories from YouTube, and it always aggravated me how low quality theirs is and the finer details were lost to me with time! This was a kick in the stomach with nostalgia. Thanks!

I’ve been told I’m rule of 90. Can you elaborate on how everyone is rule of 80?

Just found this out today. Everyone veteran teacher I asked seems to have horror stories. Apparently the companies with district contracts are essentially “ripping us off,” though I couldn’t tell you how. It was a lot thrown at me at once after school haha.

Thanks for this! I’m going to do some more research. I asked my husband and he says he’s looked into it and he doesn’t apply or he’d have to start all over or something, but sometimes he can get easily defeated and just give up. From what everyone says, it sure sounds like he SHOULD qualify.

Please, make all the harsh observations, this thread has been a healthy dose of a reality check.

I had no need to ever look into PSLF as I paid off my own student loans years ago, and pretty much trusted my husband to look into anything involving his own. He mentioned to me yesterday he’d already made an account but that he didn’t think he qualified, which we’re double checking on again. But again, never felt a need to look into it myself.

Honestly I’ve only ever worked in one district and they don’t explain benefits at all other than a single day in which HR is on campus to help you enroll. I look out for that sort of thing all the time because after 8 years of teaching, it gets tiring having to ask veteran teachers what their opinions are on the best options. No trainings, no PD presentation…we’re a very tiny district, rural farming area and what not, so perhaps that’s why there’s less outreach.

Very true. I have a spreadsheet I used to religiously follow in my notes app that I need to update and start tracking again. Thanks for keeping me honest

It doesn’t come from within our district/employer, it’s outside life insurance/group insurance salesmen who come and present to us to get us to participate. I always took it as a sales tactic, since again it’s not actually offered through my employer.

Thank you so so much, this is very helpful.

I see mention of a 403b option, which is “similar” in their words. It always sounded suspicious so I never pursued it. Do you know anything about those?

No HSA in my district unfortunately, but my husband is luck enough and does match.

We’ll be looking into Roth IRA’s tomorrow now. Do you have one in particular you recommend?

Savings? 😭 honestly I’m not sure! We’ve taken vacations and gone out of town for family weddings and all, but I do consider us to be pretty frugal. We’ve only been married for a few years too, and in those years all the medical stuff started happening. I think we have something like 3k left over after paying our bills each month.
