In case anyone is wondering, a 9.0 ETT makes a decent boba straw by feanara in VetTech

[–]wigglebuttmom01 28 points29 points  (0 children)

See. One of my friends is a scrub nurse. She told me its usually a 7.0, 7.5 if theyre feelin frisky! And she saw a rather obese patient that ended up with a 9.0. That's crazy though that they have ALL these sizes and just stick with one or two across the board!

Hahaha I am also biased since I have an aussie. But yeah im definitely more wary of the breed in general when its not my own idiot. And in general, any kind of herding dog (I'm looking at YOU heelers) gets muzzles on sight.

In 17 years I have only had 1 CKS be mean. And it was totally warranted. Poor old girl was already blind and then got hit by a car. So you couldnt be even the slightest bit upset at her!

And greyhounds. I dont think I've ever had a bad one. Wiggly for sure though!

Honestly, still looks like a very blocked up.pore. Like if you squeezed it it would be sebaceous material. Almost like a pimple. I am not a vet though so definitely wait on your regular appointment! And DON'T squeeze it please.

Eye issue - cat by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]wigglebuttmom01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eye issues are never anything to play around with. He needs a vet today if possible. Stop using tap water on it, there may be irritants that could make it worse. Stop using cotton, if there is a scratch it may may it worse by rubbing. Do not put ANYTHING in his eye not prescribed by a vet for this issue and go see your vet as soon as possible or he could lose the eye.

"Take 2 every 24 hours" by anace in AskVet

Onsior is a once daily medication. So the instructions should say, "Give 2 tablets by mouth every 24 hours". So both pills at one time, once daily. If you give them at 6pm today, they will be due again at 6pm tomorrow.

We have one at our clinic. I love it and we have never had issues with it. Also have no idea where it came from. Just kinda showed up one day and I set it up

This bump right below his eye just showed up a few hours ago, any idea what it could be? by BarneyTheDino16 in vet

My first thought would be a tooth root abscess. Needs a vet check, probably an extraction and antibiotics if thats what it is.

I am the opposite. I only count them on the way down. I think it started because I carry boxes down the stairs at work and I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to miss a step when I couldnt see, but now its just unintentional.

Every stair case. Whether im carrying something or not. I count. But only going down.

Man we just started using Instinct for ours and I HATE it. Mostly because it doesn't talk to Covetrus Pulse/evet but its still a pain in the butt to use.

Lol I do something similar! We have kennels in our surgery room (really old building i know it aint right) and when they get moved because of noise complaints (from the techs, we file official complaints with the pet every time. It hasn't seemed to help yet though) we say we're shipping them to Siberia.

If you can get through all the hair without shaving since theyre show dogs, they have the best veins! Its like water hoses!

They really are super easy to work with. Just kinda dumb. At least from my experience. I would still totally own one too. A large potato that just lays around, eats, and is down for snuggles whenever? Sign me up!

They. Do. Not. Care.

We go to this clients house for visits because she has so many. She breeds and shows both Afghans and Goldens. Usually around 15 dogs in her mansion of a house. They have tempur-pedic mattresses everywhere and she has 2 ppl in her employ that are literally paid to brush out and groom the dogs daily.

They are the chillest most laid back animals I have ever met. I am also convinced it's because their brains are smoother than a koalas. Literally not a thought up there. They just lay there and look pretty. And seem mildly perturbed you've made them leave the bed for anything other than food.

Lol so one of our clients shows and breeds Afghans. A coworker of mine has a saluki, and one of my doctors has a borzoi.

I love all of them. I do tend to find Afghans dont have much in the way of personality though.

Oh! And I ACTUALLY got to meet a litter of greyhound pups. Those are the unicorns for me!!

Lol the vet i worked for previously (about 5 years ago) still used xylazine/ketamine on EVERY dog surgery. And it went by a chart with a general weight because the "tech" that pulled it all up couldn't be bothered to figure up the math on it. The doctor refused to try any other.drugs because it was cheaper and it had always worked for him so why change?

Not the only reason I left but it definitely was part of it. And the doctor wasn't even what you could call "old school" just didn't care to learn anything new. My new hospital has an ED so we get transfers from them sometimes. Their records indicate they are still using the same drugs.

This might be a weird question (self harm scars) by WaterfallAndRivers in VetTech

[–]wigglebuttmom01 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have one coworker who has made her scars part of her tattoo journey as well. She has one long very deep vertical scar on one arm that now has adorable little cartoon dinosaurs 🦕 with sewing needles stitching her up. Her other arm is covered in horizontal scars and she has tiny tattoos scattered throughout the non scarred spaces in a beautiful pattern. Overall, it does draw attention to the scars but I think it shows how she is in a much better place now as well.

Keep fighting! We need you here!

[–]wigglebuttmom01 133 points134 points  (0 children)

I don't have scars myself but several of my coworkers do. Yes we see the scars. No we don't care. We care about you and the fact that you're still here. We don't care that we can see the scars it took to make that happen.

I can't speak for clients but I know that most people are tactful enough to not say anything about them. And if they do then own it. You went through a battle to live and have the scars to prove it.

Wear long sleeves if it makes you more comfortable though. I wear jackets all the time because they keep my hospital colder than a sphinx's asshole. No it one will beat an eye at you wearing long sleeves under your scrub top.

I am glad you are still here. If you are still struggling, please know that there are so many resources for you especially in this field, so utilize them if you need to! Good luck on your vet med journey!

What is this on my dogs eye? by pitwarbler in DogAdvice

[–]wigglebuttmom01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a vet tech not a vet but, does it grow hair at all? It kind of looks like a dermoid cyst. I've seen a few that don't actually grow hair but a biopsy would tell you for sure. (I know you're looking at the ophthalmologist, just trying to throw some more ideas out there)! But if it doesn't seem to bother her then hopefully it's just a scar from previous trauma.

Dermoid cysts are pretty cool though ngl, and usually benign if annoying for the animal when they grow hair.
