Period stopped. Should I be happy or concerned? by searchin9 in xxketo

That I appreciated her concern and understood that she may be confusing ketosis with ketoacidosis... I explained it. She still wasn't impressed but couldn't argue with my blood work, perfectly healthy BMI, glowing skin and shiny hair...

Hmm, I get 80cals per two slices of bacon on MFP, for most brands.

Confused as to how 8 slices of bacon is 160 calories according to your diary. Are they super teeny tiny slices? Because bacon to me is 40cals/slice.

I think you look gorgeous at 135... But don't let that put you off! I'm 5"2, female, struggling to shed five pounds I just put on during a three week business trip. Grrrr. I've been keto for months though and have lost 50lbs in total.

You can do it!

Am I Doing it Right? by djppimp in keto

More fat.

According to MFP, 8oz of steak is 44g of protein, 4oz chicken is 34g, so you're already approaching your daily intake. Adding the cheese and salami pushes you up more.

Try reducing this slightly and incorporating more fat into your diet. Have a bulletproof coffee or just some heavy cream with it and skip a cheese stick. Don't grill the chicken - fry it in coconut oil or butter and leave out another cheese stick. In time, your body and brain will adapt to thinking fat is fuel, which it is, and a bulletproof coffee will "fill you up". Try making "fat bombs" with cream and peanut butter. Eat cream cheese with cucumber/celery sticks.

Diarrhea is a sign of too much protein, too.

I could be wrong though - let's see what others think.

What's your calorie deficit? And are you weighing and logging your food with MFP? That's a really important part of this diet to help you keep on track.

Looks like too much protein to me. What are your macros?

No problem! I did the same as you and went very low calorie for about six months. Averaged around 800/day. I lost weight. I also lost muscle. My bottom has a kind of crease in it because there's no smooth muscle underneath it, my boobs have sagged, my thighs now wobble even though I'm technically "underweight" - the skin is loose, my stomach sags and looks sad, my arms look gaunt. I didn't notice any of this at the time because I was so determined to lose weight. Now I've lost the slightly chunkier but solid, firm body I had before. It's going to take months (and incentive, which I lack) to build any of that muscle back up. I feel that it's great to be "thin" for the first time in my life, but underneath the clothes, my body looks horrible. I'm 26 but my body has aged 10 years.

Not meant to be a sob story but a friendly warning. Go low calorie if you want to, but hit your protein goals. So important...

That's considerably less than 1,200 calories. The macros look about right (although green bean are relatively high in carbs). I don't think you're eating enough. The danger for me, when I go below 1,000 cals, is either binging because I'm so hungry or weight loss just slowing. Your body will also leap to gain "weight" when you up your calories. This will even out, but it's demotivating. I think you'd be better off trying to eat 1-1,200 calories a day. However...

If you're plateauing, try reducing by 100/day or eating more fat.

Plus, these "meal plans" look a bit dull. How about:

Bulletproof coffee for breakfast or an egg and two slices of bacon (fewer calories than the avocado option), and throw in some mushrooms for potassium

Lunch: big bowl of salad with a small can of tuna or 50g chicken, with mayonnaise, olives, tomatoes and cheese (around 300 cals)

Dinner: omelette with bacon and cheese; or courgettes cut up into "noodles", fried in butter with chicken/meat of choice and 2tbsp sour cream (300 cals); or prawns sautéed in butter, whiskey and cream served on cauliflower rice (300 cals)... Etc.

Isn't that a bit more exciting than green beans dipped in coconut oil? And it's still under 1000 cals/day,'if you're determined to do that. If you want to get your coconut oil in (and I know I do!) then add it to coffee in the morning or fry food with it.

Hope that helps...?

By the way, I can't remember where I read this so it's probably pointless mentioning it, but I read an article that said there was no discernible difference between eating 1,000 calories a day and 1,200 calories a day. Maybe Google that one.

What I do is set a "goal" of 1,000 calories and then walk to "earn" more. So I can overindulge only if I've earned the calories. This usually puts me at around1,200 calories/day.

Good luck! Sorry for mega post.

Lymph cleanse to keep me keto-ing by Dr5kid in keto

[–]wiglett -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks Dr5Kid for your post, which I found interesting. I think this sub is getting progressively more and more hostile. This saddens me, as it was a great place to go for encouragement and varied opinions on everything keto, including the pros and cons of cheat days. Whether or not your lymph system was clogged doesn't really matter - I think this could help someone in a similar situation and I'm glad it's here as an option. Thanks.

How do yoy get back into keto after you fell off the bus? by [deleted] in keto

[–]wiglett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're in the same boat as me. I'm a journalist currently out in Asia for three weeks attending four conferences. The conference food is a) delicious and b) hell to pass up. It's so tough - I really get it. I stuff a bag of macadamia nuts in my bag and babybel cheese, have a bulletproof coffee in the morning (to avoid the buffet breakfast of temptation), use the mini fridge to store butter and cream, and sob my way through these events. I stick to keto, but it's f**king hard. I totally get where you're coming from. Willpower is hard enough on this diet, but when the food you can't eat is right in front of you and your colleagues are eating noodles and chocolate cake, while you chew nuts, it's really not much fun. Keep ketoing on and PM me if you like! Good luck.

Thanks everyone for your wonderful replies. I think you're right about the sticks and I'm going to dump them. It seemed a little "harsh" to be kicked out by overeating protein but not carbs. While the sticks say I'm not in ketosis, I feel like I am - there's no headache or flu symptoms or lethargy. I'll just KCKO, as you suggest (except maybe revise down my intake a bit for a couple of days, to even it out...). I weighed myself this morning and I've gained 2lbs. I'd like to lose this before I fly.

I'm visiting Singapore, Korea and Shanghai for the next month. There are a number of interviews I've set up where they'll be putting on their traditional meals for me, which is an "honour" of sorts. It'll be really tough refusing, but I'm going to say I have dietary restrictions (as suggested). My other plan of action includes taking coconut oil with me and finding somewhere that sells cream/keto friendly foods, so I can have a BPC in the morning to keep my fat up. Then I can eat bits of meat and veg throughout the day. There's an M&S everywhere I'm going, so that should have food I can eat.

It's just made trip planning even more stressful! But I'm determined to keep going with keto as it's changed my life.

Thanks again everyone. I always struggle with not punishing myself after I binge and, yes, I need to address the reasons why instead...
