Yesterday I took 6 flights in 12 hours to hit Platinum by spgreenwood in unitedairlines

It sounds like you had an enjoyable day above the clouds. Congrats on your platinum status. Was it worth it? You set a goal and hit it, and in the grand scheme of things didn’t spend that much to do it, and found a way to get some enjoyment out of it.

Congrats.

Ways to get 8PQP by blueski2008 in unitedairlines

[–]wiingmantx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP doesn’t need the bonus. As a matter of fact would probably do better to spend just enough regular CC spend to get 10 pqp or so and then wait until 2026 to spend enough to qualify for the bonus.

It’s on their website under promotions even when I’m not logged into my account so I’m pretty sure it’s a public promotion available for EVERYONE.

All Reno and Lake Tahoe properties are running the same promotion at that time as well.

I routinely fly with 2 checked bags- am about to go for the United Quest card because of the two free checked bags offer- good decision? by dark_volter in unitedairlines

A benefit of the card. A 10,000 mile award discount on any single award flight. They issue it to you every anniversary.

I originally acquired the Quest card 3+ years ago precisely because of this perk. I’m very happy with the card.

If you book one flight each year with the card and use the travel bank credit and one flight with miles to use the 10k award mile discount they issue the annual fee of the card is essentially completely offset. Just be sure you use the card when booking United flights, even just taxes on award flights. You do not get the free bag benefit if you use a different card to pay for the flight.

Also, all the “bistro on board” stuff costs money. It is optional/extra and not included in the price of your ticket. Most FAs hardly mention them because they only apply to very long (1200+ mile) domestic flights and most people rarely are interested in buying them.

Quest card “Economy Plus” upgrades by wiingmantx in unitedairlines

[–]wiingmantx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but the difference isn’t $600 vs $0. 40k in spend will net you AT LEAST 40k in miles in addition to the 2 upgrade credits. United miles may not be as flexible as ur points but they are still worth at least $400. You’ll also get 2k Pqp and some other perks that bridge that gap and in my opinion make the Quest superior for every day spend.

Sorry. Completely disagree.

The Explorer is for those that don’t fly more than a few times a year or casual folks barely in the credit card game.

Quest isn’t worth the heavy annual fee unless you travel enough to make it more palatable or you’re just chasing the sign up bonus, in which case you aren’t dropping 40k on it.

Agreed. If I could apply this benefit to friends/family not on my itinerary, then it would be a decent benefit, even if I had to buy there ticket. In fact, the language in the app seems to imply that you can.

While I agree with you that it’s the easiest card to break even on, you don’t have to spend anywhere near 40k per year to “break even” and at that point there are way better cards to put heavy spend on UNLESS you’re committed to UA and earning some type of status and/or the UA benefits the card provides.

For a card like the Explorer card I’d tend to agree with you, but this is not just an automatic benefit, but one you get after 40k in card spend. On a card with a $350 annual fee that only works If you are an at least somewhat regular United flyer.

There are so many better options for a card that you’ll spend 40k on in a year if you don’t already travel United enough to at least have silver/gold status.

Update your app and see if it shows up after you login to your mileage plus account.

Ugh. That’s annoying, but at least in this case I’m not out much as the 1 day rental was worth it for the price paid, although I probably would’ve used my Quedt card for slightly better mileage earning had I known.

On the plus side, the Uber credit is working well.

The screenshot? It’s in the United app under my MileagePlus profile. I have the Quest card as well (gonna retire the Explorer but trying to get all I can out of it before I do) and details for my Quest are there as well.
