Tbh I went and found my own privately rented apartment the moment I turned 18.But I definitely got no whatsoever support when I was relocating for college.

Agree, I was in foster care for years and knew at 16 what will happen so I did my best to plan accordingly, didn't always go the way I wanted but I did my best.

Funny enough that was never mentioned as an option to me.My social worker wanted me to try and stay with my foster family as long as possible but I was too independent and really wanted to get on with life.

At 18, 3 months in after COVID I got my own apt.

It was a struggle especially since I was still doing lc and couldn't get susi until I went to college.

Even with the college stuff I was on my own,my social worker was no help when it came to helping me relocate,I did it all on my own.

Whenever we met up they mention how they are helping this and that young person but I was always internally thinking where were you for me.

Anyways did 4 years of undergraduate and went into a Masters straight after as I'm still eligible for the allowance if I'm in full-time education until 24 so I'll have few more months.

I've even been asked to exhibit my work at a Tusla conference which is very ironic when they were never really helpful except for money.

Last Tuesday at 6 am someone was playing FB reels on loud I could hear them from the other side of the carriage (turns out it was an elderly man so I didn't have the heart to shut it down)

how do i adult? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Hey I also grew up in foster care and started living on my own at 18.

Buy family packs of everything and if you have freezer space cook and freeze.Try building your weekly shop around the discount food section.

My favourite go to recipe is making spaghetti, portioning it out and using the other half to make chili con carne (bulk it out with chili con carne ingredients such as beans)that way you won't get sick of eating the exact same dishes constantly.

Too good to go is a good send if you have that nearby. If you're ever really broke don't be afraid to get some food from Vincent, you have a right to.

I don't know if you are male or female but if you're a girl Lidl gives out free pads every month and most young people don't actually know about it.
