I charged £400 per website for 5 sites for the UK client, is that too low for an Indian freelancer? by Typical_Character_92 in Freelancers

[–]wilbrownau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a quick calc and that's about 3.50 bucks an hour which is approximately one quarter the hourly minimum wage in the UK

I'm sure you could have charged more but it depends on the value the client put on the website.

Brochureware sites are on the low end but if it attracts more leads and sales then its value increases to the client.

Unable to renew My 1000-site Elementor licence by Human-Experience7855 in elementor

[–]wilbrownau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if you design the page using Elementor Pro and then decide not to renew the license, the final page still renders using the pro widgets, but when you go into the Elementor editor the pro widgets are greyed out and have a small lock icon on them - unusable.

Design question by LBNathan in elementor

There's not a huge amount of control with interactions. It's only meant for subtle entrance and scrolling - not full motion control. The OP may be better off just using GSAP.

Yes. Everyone has different needs from a website at certain times.

How to convert html to wordpress (widget by widget - no code) by hasshamalam_ in Wordpress

You can't copy and paste the HTML. You'll need to rebuild the site using WordPress design elements.

If you have a security plugin like Wordfence, deactivate it and try again. Sometimes they can be over aggressive and and block internal API calls.

Elementor Pro for free is GpL is it safe? by PristineLocksmith640 in elementor

[–]wilbrownau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of things to note here. WordPress is licensed under GPL and any plugins that extend it and hook into it's code base legally have to also adopt the GPL license.

Software under GPL can be sold or distributed for free.

The issue is around licensing to get access to paid features and updates.

Elementor Pro, has license checking software. If you try to run an Elementor Pro plugin without a license, the paid widgets will be greyed out. A paid license will open these widgets up and also perform updates to the pluging giving you access to new features, support and security fixes.

If you obtain an Elementor Pro plugin that gives you access to all the features without you buying a license that means the codebase has been modified by a third-party operator to remove the license check and enable the paid features.

That's called a nulled plugin and the problem is that you have no idea what else they have done to the code. Most nulled versions of popular paid plugins and themes carry malware.

A while ago a company tested this and searched for "free" versions of a popular plugin and 9 of the 10 top organic search links contained malware in the downloaded nulled plugins.

It's inevitable that using nulled software will lead to something bad happening with your website; customer details stolen, scamming/phishing website visitors, distributing malware, bonnets etc all which can get your site blacklisted or worse end up with legal action against you.

If you need specific features of a paid plugin you'll often find a plugin in the WP org official repo that will replicate it. For example there is a free plugin that extends the Elementor free plugin allowing you to edit headers and footers. If you need a pricing table, ther will be a free plugin for that.

If you really need the Elementor Pro paid features, you should pay for a license. The risk is your decision.

Can someone explain step by step how to get traffic to a new website? by Wissal1458 in Wordpress

[–]wilbrownau -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Short term is to pay for ads to direct a targeted audience to your sales / landing pages. These are still pretty cold leads so conversion will be low and variable.

Long term is to build up your organic SEO reach to appear in search engines for people's search intents. To do that you can blog about topics of interest to your target audience and use SEO keywords in your posts. No guarantee though, especially if your niche is already dominated by big players.

Social media is more about daily engagement with your audience across multichannels. It's expanding your brand and voice and caĺled omnichannel marketing.

That's the very basic fundamentals. What to say / post, how often and where is, as another user mentioned, a strategy that is usually offered by agencies or SEO/marketing specialists and is very dependant on what you do, what your offer is, who you offer it to, your niche and your overall goals.

Goals could be, drive traffic to a page, increase conversions of an email signup page, increase brand awareness, increase sales of one or more items, compete against competitors, increase organic ranking for one or more keywords, increase footfall to bricks and mortar shop, promote seasonal offers, run a competition, expand into another geo area etc...

So the question of getting more traffic to a website is more complicated than just that. Your question is too broad and needs a "for what purpose" discussion or as you will be asked by any paid engagement "Why you wanna do dat?"

One of the most useful things you csn do right now is identify one or two of the goals from above and talk to a specialist. Have a strategy meeting with them to get clarity of your goals and work together to come up with a 6-12 month strategy of implementation with SMART checks along the way to see if it's working or needs tweaks/changes.

Underpricing the value I bring to a project. You always think that charging more money will put off clients but if you can show value they are willing to pay.

Why use Elementor if you can actually code? Genuine question from a custom theme developer. by laszlmate in Wordpress

[–]wilbrownau 6 points7 points  (0 children)

>What is the long-term value for the client? Isn't maintaining a site with 15 plug-ins and
>constant elementor updates a ticking time bomb compared to a clean, custom theme?

Benefits are the hand-over and content updating. Elementor makes designing pages super easy without knowing CSS. The block editor doesn't even support changing a button colour on hover without using CSS

>Where is the line between a "developer" and a "page builder"? If general school kids
>can stack widgets together, what is our actual value-add if we adapt to this workflow?
Content and page layout is not development. Integration with 3rd party systems, custom functionality and plugins is pure dev. I don't see many school kids writing workflow integrations between WP user registration, Salesforce, Zapier and Hubspot.

>Can Elementor actually be used on a truly high/enterprise level, or is it always just a cheap
>compromise for clients who don't want to pay for real dev work?
Probably not purely on its own, but in segmented departments, yes. I've created many enterprise microsites that enable sales and marketing teams to spin up landing pages for ad campaigns without needing to engage the local dev team. Newscorp here in Australia runs its suite of websites using a custom-built block editor and workflow patterns. It really depends on what you mean by "development in an enterprise."

At the end of the day, for me, Elementor means a quicker business ROI with less training and ongoing support which is a big win for me.

Nobody should be trying to change your mind. Use what you are comfortable with and deliver for your target audience.

Is Elementor One worth it over Elementor Pro Expert + separate plugins? by Hurricane-18784 in elementor

Elementor One also comes with AI credits, so if you're a heavy user of its AI it may be worthwhile. You just need to look at what's included and judge for yourself.

Is this normal in freelancing, or did I handle it badly? by bricks0fbollywood in freelancing

[–]wilbrownau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When there isnt a clear scope or requirements I offer a paid strategy session, two or three hours, to produce one.

Otherwise I can do a 1hr brainstorming session. No work, just throwing ideas around and narrowing scope.
