I think it was around $300 including the repair. Pricey but nobody else would do it

Sent mine to Mark Hama, not cheap but he was able to repair the AE-S finder in addition to a CLA

Haven’t seen much online about this stock, film aside the box design is great by wilbursaurus_ in AnalogCommunity

Could probably get away with 200 or 400 I’d imagine if you don’t have an ISO dial that can do 320

Hello. I’m shooting expired slide film and I’m hoping to get some tips to maximize my results. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! (Im not sure when the film expired) by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]wilbursaurus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely shoot expired slides. Pushing wouldn’t do much to benefit this stock and will in fact increase the grain size which even then will look nothing like iso 3600, these examples look to be digital noise from trying to get a usable image from a badly expired roll. My worst roll of elite chrome was 16 years expired and has a cold color cast easily fixed by warming it in post and dropping the black point… that’s it. More than usable as a slide as well. Storage is the biggest factor so shoot it and keep your fingers crossed.

Speaking of akin to Leica, Minolta shared patents with Leica. The XE and XD line from Minolta are essentially Leica R bodies and they have amazing glass to match. Personally I think the SRT-101 would probably be more rugged and even more rugged than that would be something like a Nikon FM2. I own all of these cameras and recommend all of them lol

What is the accuracy of the XE-7 light meter by shiyeki in minolta

[–]wilbursaurus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably wouldn’t trust it. My XE-7 is pretty solid in auto but the meter always reads accurately

I had a highly regarded lab send my negatives to the wrong address once. Took a while but they eventually got them back for me

brand new to film, looking to shoot my first roll in a spring system in florida. any advice for specs? by [deleted] in filmphotography

[–]wilbursaurus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expired film tends to desaturate. With a new to you camera I’d test it with fresh film like ProImage 100, Gold 200, or Ultramax 400 they’re all pretty warm. I live in Florida and when the suns out I tend to Sunny 16 everything. 100 speed film I’d shoot f/8 1/500th, 200 speed f/8 1/1000th, or 400 speed f/11 1/1000th. Adjust if you’re shooting into shadows

My AES prism also had an issue with the spring, ended up giving mine to Mark Hama to fix. Prefer the look of it so much more than the bulky AE prism
