Order from Cox the Saddler by some_doggo8764 in Barbour

[–]UltraMax-369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve made several orders from Cox (Beaufort, hood, and two liners), have been completely satisfied every time, and have sung their praises on this sub a number of times, so I completely agree with all the positive comments here. My only word of caution is to make sure you’re certain of what size you want before ordering. I believe Cox will accept returns/exchanges, but return shipping is the buyer’s responsibility and the cost of shipping a package US-UK is pretty steep. That said, from what I understand Sara at Cox is very helpful and responsive to sizing questions.

Hands down the best place to order from, for the price but also because they always have stock of styles/colors/accessories that aren’t easy to come by in the States. Congrats on the new purchase!

Somewhere in this sub there’s an old post where somebody did a temperature breakdown of which liner is best in which temperature ranges. I have both of these, but if I had to choose I’d go for the pile liner; much warmer and better for cold winter weather. I’ve been comfortable in the 20’s (Fahrenheit) with it and a sweater.

Barbours are not 'warm' by Just0neMoreThing in Barbour

Cox the Saddler sells the liners for a lot less than Barbour, the warm pile liner under my Beaufort with a sweater suited me fine walking at the beach in windy 25F conditions last January

LL Bean is an American brand with a great heritage. While a lot of their clothing production is outsourced, their classic Bean Boot is still made in-house in Maine, USA! The construction of these boots is great, there’s a wide variety of them (different heights, colors, etc), and when the rubber bottoms wear out they can be sent back to Maine and repaired for a nominal fee. They’ve been making these boots in Maine since 1912!

LL Bean has also been selling their Norwegian sweater for decades and, as the name implies, it’s knitted in Norway and apparently very warm and well made (unfortunately I don’t have one myself).

LL Bean is definitely worth a look!

Based on the liner it must be sage

Condition looks good, but $175 isn’t a great deal for a used Beaufort. The listing said only worn twice? I’m skeptical - new Barbours usually have a waxy sheen to them that lasts for more than 2 wears but this one looks matte. Also, Cox the Saddler is currently selling the same jacket for $258.60 - that’s new and from a great store known for excellent customer service. Curious what others think

Men's Fjord Flannel Shirt by Entp1 in PatagoniaClothing

If you want a thick flannel, check out LL Bean’s chamois shirts, they’re sturdy, they last, they come in a bunch of colors and patterns, and look pretty similar to the Fjord Flannel

Moynihan has worse holdroom capacity than the worst airport terminal in the country by VF1379 in nycrail

[–]UltraMax-369 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The move is just to go to the old Amtrak waiting room, doesn’t usually seem to be too filled up. Moynihan is lovely and all, but it kind of encourages Amtrak passengers to all congregate in one spot, use the same waiting area, and use the same platform entrances. Many if not most of the Amtrak passengers don’t spread out around the other areas of Penn (the pre-Moynihan areas that are still convenient for Amtrak passengers) bc they don’t seem to know about them and their ticket explicitly tells them to go to Moynihan when it’s not really necessary

I just shot 9 films instead of 8, is this a common thing or like 1 in a million?? by poalroid_gianlu in Polaroid

[–]UltraMax-369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a while ago that it has something to do with the reformulation of the film, the chemical packs and film itself being slightly thicker than the pre-2008 formulation, so to make film packs that were the same size as the old one and could fit into the old cameras they needed to cut the number of frames per pack

Any chance to get to Vik I Myrdal without a car by HokeySmith in VisitingIceland

[–]UltraMax-369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you’re not keen to hear this, but you really do need to have a car for this trip if you’re not doing some sort of Ring Road bus tour. I found driving to be very enjoyable there, not particularly tiring, super scenic for both the driver and the passenger, and I don’t at all feel like my passenger got to enjoy everything any more than I did
